How would you assess Rodri's season?

Sane was raw but I could see he had the pace, skill and directness to cut the mustard in our side. The signs were there in abundance. He then improved as he grew into the team.

He was like one of those birds you spot in the supermarket and think "potential" and you have a few more cheeky looks at her as you pass again in later aisles.

Rodri on the other hand is a stone cold 5/10 bird where you see her once in the aisle in a supermarket and would rather look at the crisps than her when she passes you again later.
So has Rodri though, he dictated the tempo in midfield when we played Liverpool at home and separated defence to attack with a single pass between the lines. Worker perfectly. Get Bernardo and foden alongside and he's perfect.

To be fair, I don't ever think like that but that's mainly because I'm a gentleman ;)

But who is Fernandinho in world football? At his best there aren't many better.

Sergio Busquets was a better player than Fernandinho at his best, and he had legs around him at Barcelona. You don't need legs and energy for your system to work. You can't just compare Rodri who's very young to Fernandinho - who was completely different.

Which is pretty much my point.

Fernandinho miles better than Rodri.

Rodri "needs legs" around him.

Rodri needs "the system" to wrap him in cotton wool.

Rodri needs his arse wiping because he's only 24.

Record fee.

What the fuck were we thinking?

The dippers were still pissed from celebrating and were beyond disinterested in that game.

Norris Cole could have run that game.

Money goes alot further nowadays.

At the time we bought Rodri- 60m is much closer to 20m 5-8 years ago. Fred cost the same and he failed until very recently at United. Now he looks a different player with a better quality midfield around him.

Put Busquets at his best into a Blackpool side and he wouldn't look as good. Rodri did it with Villarreal. It's more the system and the team selections than the player for me. We've got to give him time. He was bought for the future, and not primarily for the now.

It wouldn't be like a Koulibaly signing. He's more like a Ferran Torres signing - irrespective of the fee paid.

Fred was, is and always will be, bang average.

Surely going by your "put X in Y's team" theory, Rodri surrounded by a squad who won 4 domestic trophies the previous season, should look absolutely out of this world?

I disagree. He's been United's best player this season excluding Fernandes/Martial.

Well, when the manager completely changes the system and the way we play then absolutely yes. When you flood the midfield with no creativity and runners from midfield like Bernardo then what do you expect? In the games we won Bernardo was crucial to the way we played. He hasn't featured much this season and I personally don't think that's because of his underwhelming performances- and more tinkering with the formation.

So the record signing can only be any good if Bernardo holds his hand?

Have you texted Pep so he knows for next season?

If this was the dippers making excuses upon excuses for why their record signing isnt much good, we'd be laughing our bollocks off at them.

When I first saw Rodri at West Ham early season I thought Wow what a player Pep has done it again. He completely dominated the midfield winning headers and tackles. I don't think Gundogan played alongside him that day leaving Rodders to patrol and dominate the midfield. Also has scored a couple of crackers from outside the box. Unfortunately after lockdown there was a distinct drop off in form. Hope he bounces back next season Still think he will end up at centre back as did Kompany.
