How would you assess Rodri's season?

Fernandinho was a magnificent player. Losing Laporte to the injury was a double blow with Fernandinho moving from a position he was peerless in. Rodri is not in his class, not even close.

Definitely room for improvement, however sometimes he did just muscle opponents of the ball, moved the ball effortlessly and dominated the midfield.

A Kante at his best can cover the ground 2 players can in the pivot and TBH, I would like that kind of player.

However it can be balanced with the attacking 2 have more legs and helping back.

Next season we need the midfield 3 to click again, like it did in the centurion season.

I agree with this. Pace is everything in the modern game. I don't think Gundogan or Rordri are bad players but you are right about mobility. Bayern would have murdered us if we had beaten Lyon.

He would Look good in a Villa team, I personally think he slows our game down especially when we win the ball back in our own half.

So Rodri, our big summer signing of 2019 in a position that was crying out for reinforcement.

How would you all assess his first season? Clearly a very astute footballer with good tactical awareness and positioning, however I do feel he would be better with a combative midfielder in there with him in the Fernandinho mold.

I think one of City's biggest issues this past season has been the reduction in our press intensity since the loss of Ferna to the defense, hence teams can play out and get at us easier than in previous seasons. That's not just on Ferna though, the likes of Mahrez who have played more this year don't really have that side of the game in their locker, and yes there is a skill to it.

In short I feel Rodri has been a good signing, and is definitely one for the more tactical chess matches, such as the Bernabeu, but feel he needs some support in there with him in the Prem (not Gundo!) I'm excited to watch him develop over the coming seasons.

The jury is still very much out on Rodri for me ....... sometimes he looks alright , but sometimes he looks like a cat in the headlights , and especially against the better teams.

He looks ok when we play slow teams. Not so good when we play teams that break quickly.

We have really struggled against teams with a quick break this season.

We need to resolve it very quickly. Not sure how we do that with the personnel we have.
