Love the hate for Apple products. I honestly think the iPhone is the best phone, perhaps it's a little unimaginative in regards to it still not having widgets and perhaps the screen isn't quite as big as I'd like but all round it's a great package. The main problem for me is that it's just too expensive IMO and the extra premium isn't worth it.
Don't you see that the 'hate' (dislike and/or criticism) for Apple might be because of the expense and 'premiem'. The iPhone 5 is still the most expensive phone but the HTC One, S4 and Xperia Z all have far better specs with Quad Core processors, 1080p screens with a PPI exceeding 440, and 2GB of RAM. That compares to the iPhone 5's dual-core, 1 GB of RAM, sub-HD (not even 720p much less 1080p) and a PPI of 326. So you pay more, for a lot less. Why? I'm sure some people prefer iOS and the App Store. Fine; personal preference. But could you argue iOS is better than Android? I certainly don't think so.
Well yeah the iPhone 5 will be dated compared to phones released this year but I'm sure the new one will match those specs. Plus iOS does seem to run better even with worse specs than Android from experience anyway. I've got a Nexus 4 which has the 2GB of RAM, quad core etc but even then, very occasionally it'll lag when you move between home screens whereas iOS seems to be rock solid.
In my opinion the App Store is better than the Google Play Store without doubt especially for games. But possibly the best thing about the iPhone is the resell value it holds. Stick it in a case and a few screen protectors and it'll be still worth over £200 easy in two years time which means you do get back some of/most of the premium you paid in the first place.
