Huddersfield (H) Post Match Thread

BBC's MOTD on Man City exploiting Huddersfield’s high press tactic & Benjamin Mendy's performance

Think we'll see that formation at home against Palace, Brighton, Newcastle, Southampton, Burnley and Cardiff who will all almost certainly play with 10 men behind the ball at the Etihad.

Honestly, what a f****ng team we are. It is an absolute pleasure to watch this City team, it really is. We have a team full of real real quality.

Ederson's pass for the first goal was absolutely outrageous, i have never seen anything like him. We are blessed to have him, such a unique, unorthodox goalkeeper who has brought something so refreshing to the Premier League which we have never seen before.

Mendy was absolutely brilliant. First 15 mins he was a little bit sloppy in possession, but after the 20 minute mark he came alive and he was an absolute machine down that left side. His crossing ability is ridiculous. It literally looks like he is shooting balls out of a cannon he is that powerful and accurate. He is going to be such a weapon this season for us. Still could improve on the defensive side of his game though, but he is going to be such an exciting player for us. Looking forward to seeing how he develops.

I think the one man who goes unnoticed the most at City is Aymeric Laporte. I think he is absolutely pure class. His passing, his reading of the game, his awareness... he has it all for me. He looks a top top quality addition for me. John Stones i thought was very good bar the one lapse of concentration for their goal, but he is improving all the time.

Gundogan is another player who goes unnoticed or gets a bit too much stick and i honestly don't understand why. He works hard for the team, his usage of the ball is superb... every time he is in control of the ball you trust him to keep hold of it and do something productive with it. I just feel because we have so many good players, he gets completely overshadowed, but i am a huge fan. Class act.

Bernardo Silva was a little bit quieter today than against Arsenal where i thought he was superb, but i am expecting huge things from him this season, love watching him play. The ball looks like it is tied to his boot laces, lovely little footballer.

Jesus' work also is so underrated, his movement on Sunday was absolutely top class. He has such a good understanding of the game for someone so young and he is the epitome of a team player. Massive fan of his. Aguero stole the show though, wonderful display from him.

As for David Silva, well... he is the best player i have seen at City. Absolute genius. I wish he was Benjamin Button and he could age backwards. Never want the man to leave this club or retire.

Excited also for Foden's career too, you can see when he comes in he fits our team like a glove. He plays so similar to the two Silva's, silky smooth on the ball. Big future ahead of him and i hope that is with City. Kompany again fantastic, Fernandinho so important to our side and almost irreplaceable. Mahrez, Sane, Sterling and Walker on the bench... just an embarrassment of riches.

I just love how we play under Pep... we have a goalkeeper who can play as a playmaker when teams press us high, we have Stones and Laporte playing as tertiary playmakers punching the balls in between the lines, we have Fernandinho and Gundogan playing as secondary playmakers and the two Silva's as our primary playmakers... we literally have players all over the park who can open a team up at any moment. If teams press us high, Ederson opens them up with one pass, if teams sit back and soak up the pressure, we have players who have the cuteness and finesse to open teams up in such tight spaces and now we have Mendy to drop balls in the box and cause absolute mayhem for opposition defences. The pace in our team is just absolutely frightening.

We are truly blessed to have Pep. What a manager he is. Whether we win, lose or draw the football we are witnessing week in week out is special. Long may this continue.

Average position map vs Huddersfield. Can't help but notice there are three pairs (Kompany/Fernandinho, Gundogan/Jesus, Silva/Silva), and that both Fernandinho and Jesus were playing very deep considering their respective starting positions.

Question: Does Mendy's crossing into the box render the parked bus obsolete?
To stop the crosses the opposition back line will vertually have to be on the goal line - which opens up space across the middle of the box for our passing.

This result will absolutely rattle teams planning to park the bus when they come to the etihad, especially if we use that formation again with similar results, and by teams I mean jose

Yet another great performance by the team as a whole. Scored plenty of goals, which is a good thing this early on in the season. Also need to make more use of Ederson's goal kicks more often, then we do now. especially against those teams who may think about parking the bus against us.

However we yet again missed a pan full of chances. Less than half of the shots were on target, which is not a good sign, however almost half of those that were on target ended up in the back of the net. We need to improve on the shots on target against the bigger clubs.

Dude I think you will find that nearly 50% on target and a total of 14 on target in a game is pretty damn good

Liverpool were 16 (6) on Monday, Chelsea were 24(11) against the arse so 32(14) is comparable on % and much better on shots!

There's something about that scoreline that I just love, can't think why though...
