Hughes has always been defensively naive. An average manager at best. Can't see anyone taking him on again in the Pl once stoke sack him in 12mths or so.

Hughes is an average manager but he does sign very good players wherever he goes (also does waste money) , the only trouble is he cannot get them performing consistently (although he does occasionally get a few results against Arsenal, Chelsea, rags, and us)

Hughes has a mixed record with youth (scratch that he has a poor record), especially during his time at City. He gave Weiss a go in his last season at City, he preferred Ched Evans over Daniel Sturridge but moved Evans in the end (signed Roque Santa Cruz and Adebayor ) , loaned Hart (initially he was first choice during his first season in charge) and opted for Given. Richards and Onuhoa stuck around despite the Toure, Lescott signings.

Mark is cool, he s had a hard time of it of late. Blackburn played some excellent football for a while under him. will always wish him well.

I'm not really anti Hughes and thought he started OK when things looked like they were going into meltdown, but a manager with limitations.

I thought he did an absolutely brilliant job at City, during a time of complete chaos. Unlikely he could have gone the extra yard, in competition with Ferguson, but he still played a decent part in putting together the team which eventually did it.

Now, his moment has gone & it shows in his teams. He was an 'up & coming' manager at Blackburn & at City, but now he's just one of the run of the mill, mid table, journeymen & I doubt he feels particularly inspired himself, so his players are unlikely to be. He's just the football equivalent of an average bloke earning a living now.

He will probably lose his job at Stoke sometime in the next 18 months but then get another one at a similar sized club and do the same type of job there, rinse and repeat. He is on the managerial gravy train, as far several other. The only ones that suffer are the fans of these unambitious, complacent managers

I know he'd been a centre half, but he was a top player capable of playing as a holding midfielder and when Hughes bought him we had Dunne Richards and Onouha all quite capable centre backs but with the fading of Hamman no real defensive midfielder I don't think it was poor management to sign a skill full and versatile player like Kompany and use him in an influential and important position where we were lacking. He played well there for us.

Exactly he was a top player capable of playing a number of positions, but neither Hughes or Mancini deserve any credit for developing him into a centre half!
