Hughes calls for clarity over Tevez row, MuEN block comments

Can you explain this then Stuart?

From today's MUEN (and another thread)

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Alex Stepney, who won the league, FA Cup and European Cup, said: “What a load of rubbish!

“Why should health and safety affect sports? It didn't in my day and it shouldn't do now.

“How can you play with a foam football? Kids will want to play with a proper football. Playing with a proper football never affected us in my day so why should it now?”

And Colin Bell, who won the FA Cup with Manchester City, said: “It seems very strange to me

One of England's greatest players versus an average Goalie, guess who get's the hagiology (or is that canonisation, not sure but you get my point)?

I can't explain that, I didn't write it, but my guess would be just ignorance.
It was a news reporter who wrote it, and a young one, at that.
The last thing it would be is some kind of bizarre attempt to canonise Stepney and belittle Colin Bell. How would that benefit the MEN in any way?
If you look hard enough, you will find stuff which goes the other way - we get paranoid Utd fans pointing them out, and saying how they will stop buying the paper because it's a blue rag, and so on, and so forth.
I've done it myself - I remember writing that a United player, can't remember who, had only won one league title in the 60s, when he had won two. I even missed out one of Utd's European Cup wins in an article, simply because I was working flat out to a deadline and ballsed up.
We had Reds howling about that, and rightly so.
We'd have to be a pretty screwed up lot to be sitting there, every day, wondering how we could surreptitiously undermine City and help promote Utd to world domination.
It just is not there.
There is no anti-City agenda, there is no pro-United agenda, but there is bias towards both clubs to some extent, as is the wont of a local paper

stuart brennan for Breakthrough Poster of the Year.

This stuff is so bloody refreshing from the usual paranoid, groupthink nonsense.

EDIT: Also, as a reporter than you'd be the forum's greatest ever grammar nazi. I mean, it's well known that all journos are experts in spelling and grammar :)

"than"?
Use of the word "ever" is also inaccurate, as no-one can predict whether there might be a greater grammar nazi in a future forum.

By the way, before you look, I have edited the typos in my last post ;-)

Couldn't agree more. Well done Stuart for Making the reds under the bed faction look a bit silly.

The men is embarrassingly pro both city and united, like all local papers.

The paper even makes a concerted effort to balance column inches.

I wish more of our undercover media posters would go public and put right a few of the mindless paranoid myths about city. The whole worlds against us thing is getting tiresome and dull.
