hughes on dunne

I believe that Dunne was upset that we had brought better players in and thought it would be best to get out rather than be a bit part player. For him then to come out straight away and try to get fans turning against the management at the club just smacks of bitterness that he isn't going to be a part of what we are going to achieve.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^this although to some posters on here, not believing our former captain who won 4 player of the year awards makes you a heretic.

I think Dunne is very bitter about having his replacement pursued whilst still captaining the side.

It must be hard to know your employers are buying an improved version and the guy who will get the armband is playing alongside you at the same time, all the while you are expected to perform which he did.

However I believe Dunne wanted to go. Hughes has been pretty straight down the line regarding the club and transfers in his time here. He is on a knife edge with many fans and I dont think he would be so stupid to put one over a player many see as a legend.

I do not normally stand up for hughes however

I can not see how he could allow anyone to leave before their replacement was in place and he actually said this was the case.

and for the record I believe the only loyalty in football is the loyalty shown by the fans and no multi millionaire footballer should ever get a loyalaty bonus.

and I find it hard to belive anyone would use the term legend to a technically flawed centre half imho

I never said I see him as a legend but you only have to look at the threads pronouncing him one.

Im for Hughes on this one. We couldnt leave gaping holes in the squad in case the deals fell through. Hughes has been spot on in the transfer market.

You don't believe our club could ever treat anyone badly?

Ask Colin Bell
Or Tony Book
Or Dennis Tueart
Or Jim Cassell
Or Joe Mercer
Or Neil Young

Nothing like living in the past.
Or learning from experience?

I've enough faith in City fans to believe he will get a terrific reception when he plays at COMS.

And yes, I believe his opportunities would have been limited (behind Lescott, Toure, Nedum, Vinny) but I think it could have been handled with a bit more dignity at the club. Loyalty goes both ways.

Yeah because Duunne airing his greivancies in public after receiving a £2m payoff was the really dignified thing to do wasn't it.

forgetting any fee's involved or your opinions on Dunne's past at City, how many would truly want or expect him to start ahead of Toure, Lescott, Onuoha, Kompany (Micah or Barry in an emergency) going forwards ? It was a no brainer for Dunne to leave, good luck to him but he's now history and we need to be looking to the future.

We'll agree to disagree. Who knows, maybe I'll be the only one cheering him at COMS?

No you get me wrong, I will still cheer him for what he did for the club. I just think coming out after receiving a large payoff to join a top 6 team and saying what he did left a bitter taste. But I will still cheer him, then enjoy the own goal and sending off.

I have to say that it is a little bit unfair to highlight Garry Cook and his perceived role in the discussions.
So not "totally" unfair then?...

Hughes' choice of words indicates there was at least some degree of truth to what Dunne said. Hughes is just defending the club, because it's part of his job to do so.

I never said I wanted him to stay. I agree with you.
