It would be interesting to find out just how many of the 14 "expensive" flops reportedly signed by Hughes, since he rocked up at QPR last January, are represented by Kia Joorabchian.... or am I just becoming more cynical as I get older.

I don't have the stats to hand, but I'm fairly sure that's just bullshit peddled by Hughes himself. Even if there is any truth to it, it's presumably because his sides start so monumentally badly that improvement in the second half of the season is pretty much inevitable.

It's not. It's true. I can think of his spell at Fulham where they were in the relegation spots at Christmas yet vastly improved in the second half of the season and also his first season at City where you can say the same.

Improvement is inevitable? A good start is important to ensure you're not playing catch up for the rest of the season. Morale drops when this isn't the case and it's not always the same Manager who can get things going again.<br /><br />-- Tue Nov 20, 2012 8:49 am --<br /><br />

QPR have got interest in Malaysia and India due to their financial backers so I can picture a scene where Corporate areas at The Swamp are full of guests there to see QPR get well and truly beaten. This might be the straw that broke the camel's back as it humiliates the Owners. I understand the same thing happened with Allardyce's Blackburn when they got well beaten by U****d. The Venkys had made this huge thing of the occasion and suddenly Big Sam was gone.

Les has had 5 full seasons in management.

First 19 games of those 5 seasons his teams have averaged 23.2 points.
Second 19 games of those 5 seasons his teams have averaged 31.2 points

So it is true, his teams do improve in the second half of the season. Given that, if he isn't sacked I can see QPR coming out after Christmas flying and picking up 6 points minimum in the second half of this season.

I think moomba did the stats ages ago on this and found out that hughes' teams were 0.2 points better off per game in the second half of the season.

I did, but that has improved with us (naturally as he had a very good side 1 point off a relegation spot at the half way mark of his one full seasons here) and Fulham. It's now about .4 per game.

They might ruin it all by sacking him and bringing in someone that will win a game in the first half of the season. Actually getting points before Christmas will make it so much harder to improve in the second half of the season so that would be madness as far as I'm concerned.
