Redknapp is an average manager. He has no clue about tactics and formations - by his own admission. He basically doesn't believe in that side of things much. He has no idea when it comes to making key substitutions.
He just tells all his players they are brilliant, buoys up their confidence all the time and tells them to go out and enjoy themselves. And to an extent, it works. The players love him, and they do play with confidence and good performances and results flow from it. The Kevin Keegan school of management.
He can also spot a decent transfer opportunity, to give him some credit.
However, there's a bit more to being a great manager than just doing this. And sooner or later he gets found out, because at the top level you have to have a bit more about you than that.
The fact that such an average manager as Redknapp is in a completely different league to Hughes, speaks volumes. Hughes has similarly no fucking clue on tactics, formations or substitutions. But add, no idea in the transfer market, zero man management ability and a complete absence of ideas and we have Mark Hughes.
I cannot imagine that I would be any worse.
