It puzzles me how much people here hate Hughes. I mean what has he done so bad to us ?
Also in his defense, he had a great spell at Blackburn, getting them to 6th position in 2006 or something.
He also had a great spell at Fulham. Plus I won't call his spell with us a disaster.
So yeah I don't understand why people here or even around hate him so much.
I severely dislike him as a football manager (he might be an alright bloke Who knows? Although given the trait that I am about to mention it would seem to be at odds with that) because he is a spineless excuse maker that will shit on absolutely anyone rather than admit his own shortcomings and jeopardise his cushy contracts.
Whilst here he immediately set about denigrating the previous management, the players he inherited, the fitness levels of the squad, the training facilities and all members of the backroom staff from the youth coaches to the player liaison bloke.
He wasn't taking over a tin pot, League 2 outfit. He was taking over an established Premiership club with a quality stadium and a modern, recently purpose built training facility. And he was coming from Blackburn.
But his main priority is to couch every single utterance from his mouth in terms that point towards him receiving praise. As his teams are no better than extremely average at best, this means that it has to involve trying paint the extremely average, or below average, as stupendous. Thus trying to make out that he has achieved the average against a backdrop of incompetence of others.
Perhaps every manager does this to some extent but the extent to which Hughes will go in pursuit of this - briefing against his own players, questioning/criticising the achievements/skills of others (inside and outside of his own club) and keeping a straight face whilst basically constantly claiming that he is some sort of advanced football visionary.
Why is the media so far up his backside? Partially because he was the boyhood hero for some of them but partially because they know he is happy to use them whenever it suits him and he and his staff will be 'their mate' and feed them stuff about people to save their own skin.
In summary, I can't stand his blame culture and the way he will not even blink before shitting on someone else if he imagines it offers him even the slightest of protection from criticism.
Ask Neil Warnock about that too.
Even hearing him talk today and saying how he had taken over somewhere where Pulis had laid a strong foundation for the club to progress and for him to work with, I strongly suspect what he really meant was "at QPR I took over from that joke, Warnock, who had made the club a joke, giving me no chance to succeed as I was clearing up his shit."
Let's see if he is still praising the legacy of Pulis if they are in the bottom third come Christmas. I doubt it.
