Wasn't it stated that both Zabba and Komps were already on our target list because Sven wanted them? Surely if that's true He deserves the kudos for spotting them.

Me and you could spot a good player, its not that hard. The difficulty is utilizing them to the benefit of the team. Hughes did not come close to doing that with any of the players we had

Point of order:
Kompany was a well known player when we bought him and Zabeleta was an international playing in La Liga. I wouldn't say he 'spotted' them

Kompany was also playing mainly in midfield and Zab was a complete liability IIRC

Hughes may have spotted them but Mancini and his coaching staff made them both the players they are today.

Hughes will fail at Stoke. On the plus side their forums will have gained a brilliant ITK in Mark Bowen

We got lucky with Kompany as Hamburg wasn't happy with him going to the Olympics, and with our skipper being a proud Belgian absolutely pissed him off enough to make him want to leave Germany.

If you think spending about £100m on a side which came 9th and taking them to 10th is the mark of a decent manager then fair enough, he is. I disagree.

After a year and a half we still weren't dynamic or asking the right questions. We couldn't defend for shit despite him getting in Lescott, Kolo, Zaba, Kompany (who he of course employed in midfield) as well as a variety of left backs. In addition to those defenders we had 2 midfielders who rarely left there own half and them 4 players who did what the fuck they wanted, thankfully Bellamy/Tevez dragged us into games to keep us competitive despite regularly conceding horrendous goals. If you think this shows that he has any idea how to set out a team then I despair. Sylvinho and Robinho against Lennon, did anyone think that could be successful? Yes, Hughes and the Taffia.

The season he was 10th, he didn't spend 100m. He spent 27m, had a player bought before he arrived for 18 m and got new owners on the last day of the window buy their own player for 30m.

Ben Haim (i'd erased him from my memory), Kompany, Zabba, SWP plus Jo and Robinho in the summer. Given, Bellamy, NDJ and Bridge in January about £65/70m without the Brazilians, in my book you should be able to improve a team with that, he didn't.

In his first year, what is he improving from? In his second year he never got to finish it so we'll never know what could have happened.

-- Thu May 30, 2013 5:01 pm --

He took a gamble on them as no other team bid for them.

he also took a gamble on Tal Ben Haim - enough said.
He was on the verge of shoving Joe Hart out of the club for peanuts and was ready to get rid of Micah Richards - yep Hughes sure can 'spot a player' ot two!

Haha, the previous season, where we finished 9th.

The run we were on I think you could take a fairly intelligent guess, his team's are of course 'always stronger in the second half of the season' though.

Just gonna put this out there:

Suerly no-one thinks we would have won the league, or even qualified for the Champs League with him Hughes left in charge??

Leslie, the biggest charlatan in football management, lands another job worth millions to him. Hats off to Kia Joorabchian for making a sucker out of another club owner.

Its unreal isn't it! - Everyone know's he's shite! - Well obviously not everyone does it would seem.. Or i'm completely wrong about the bloke..

I'm prepared to say here and now that Stoke this season will total less points than the average number of points that pullis won durring the past 3 seasons..

Blimey mate you're taking a chance and sticking your neck out there. At least make it decent 6-9 points less than this seasons total ;)
