Hughes - Update

Couple of points I think it's worth talking about:

A lot of the figures banded about in the media won't be right. Undisclosed means exactly that and it was proven to be correct with the Bellamy saga. Also, I get the impression Hughes doesn't decide the price so to say he hasn't been getting value for money might not be fair. I might be wrong but it seems to me that it's Khaldoon and Cook who decide when it's too much. Obviously I'm sure Hughes has an input but I wouldn't imagine he was the one saying to Khaldoon and the Sheik "don't you dare stop bidding for Lescott he's worth at least 30m".

Scorer, a well thought out post and an honest one. One thing however, from my perspective I never had a problem that you were anti-Hughes you are entitled to an opinion, it just appeared that you felt the need to hijack every possible thread with a snide remark about him which became dull.

Hughes does'nt act like Twatnapp and give out figures.

Ooops.[/quote]

You need help Moomba. To recall past quotes from Hughes beggars belief.

Last season I often questioned his decision making, but was willing to give him the chance.

he may never win 'man of the year' or 'nice person' award; but he is doing OK at his job. And that's all he should be judged on.

I doubt it is within Hughes' remit to determine transfer fees - as we know, David Moyes is the only manager around who makes ALL the decisions at his club - so some of the points about VFM are somewhat redundant in my eyes. I also think if you are talking about whether the club (rather than Hughes) has made VFM transfers then you have to look at the fee paid compared with the club's budget otherwise the figures are a little meaningless. On the subject of VFM, it is interesting that you (scorer) have made no reference to arguably the best two VFM signings made during the current regime - Given and Kompany. I realise your list of players was not exhaustive but these two have been exceptional for the reputed fees paid. Interesting stuff though.

Simply recall having a discussion in the past with a West Ham supporter on another forum. Not too difficult to find it in the search facility. Not really beggaring belief eh, lets not carrried away with ourselves.

Good for you

I was merely responding to a statement by someone else that I knew to be incorrect. No need to read anything more into it than that.

I see many have decided to take me to tsk in other threads... so here is my appraisal of where we (as a club) are and what we've achieve since 24th May.

Firstly, let me make it absolutely clear for the nth time. I do not dislike Hughes because he is a former Salford United Player... far from it and it disappoints me that Bill (DeNiro) takes that view. We have had the discussion face to face many times.

The reason i have doubted Hughes is simple - I dont think he had the pedigree or experience that I wanted to see in the hot seat at this club. It is a matter of record and opinion based on last seasons performances that my view was no less correct or incorrect than anyone elses. It was my view and I was not afraid to express. I had earlier in the season stated I would be happy for Hughes to prove me wrong - personally I dont think he did prove me wrong last season - we were a poor display too many times formy liking.

So even me, Hughes's biggest critic, must accept that the start to this season has been nothing short of sensational and the football that has been played hasn't been too bad either.

Whilst I wanted him out last season I must confess, based on what I've seen this season the Jury is back in and out about him (follow that if you can). I temper my expectations through looking at the following measures

Transfers - I think he is about 7/10 when you add value for monry to the purchases, though on the whole the purchases have been pretty good - though I definately exclude RSC from that number, and admittedly Lescott has pleasantly surprised me. Bridge not so brilliant nor TBH and Bellamy is questionable as a VFM acquisition. Barry, Adebayor and Toure are superb and hopefully Tevez will also prove to be VFM.

Games Played - Can't fault 4 wins out of 4 without conceding, though I do suggest people try to not get carried away as we have not played anyone we wouldn't have expected to have beaten (even last season). If we are still unbeaten after 5 league games anyone that does not think he deserves a go should have a serious rethink. That said, with all the financial resources at his disposal I genuinely believe anyone with professional coaching badges would struggle to not create a decent side.

General approach - I applaud his team selection for the Carling Cup though for me (and I know this isn't in keepimng with many opinions on hers) I don't like his media style think he is too vanilla and needs to try and become a little more interesting and engaging.

So there you have it... Jimharri go ahead take the piss if you must....

Hughes, It's over to you.

'Salford United player' ffs, not ALL of Salford is red mate.

There are one or two pockets of resistance.

Hughes, It's over to you.

Just out of interest, why do you not believe he had the pedigree (Good jobs with Blackburn and Wales, played for top teams across Europe) to do the job? As for the experience your right, however you can't just hold someone back due to lack of experience, its a chicken and egg situation.

Hughes had a nigh on impossible task to keep players in check last season, when the world and his wife knew we had big money to spend. The timing of ADUG taking over couldn't really have been any worse from the managers point of view. It was always going to be a transitional season.

I have no respect whatsover for people calling for his head only months into his tenure, it is laughable for him not to be given at least a couple of season to make a proper judgement. Of course mistakes were made, but crucially they didn't appear to be repeated, how else is he expected to learn?

What many forget is the way Hughes conducted himself over the Ireland/Corluka deals, he show dignity, integrity, professionalism and strength of character when he calmed the waters, after many suggested he may walk out only weeks after taking over. Remember the piss taking by Channel 5 during the AC Milan game and the mooted 'fire sale'. He has since kept a lid on the hysteria and long may it continue (imagine what Keegan would be like?!!!!)

As for Value For Money, it is largely irrelevant and extremely difficult, in these early stages of our bid for World Domination to get good value. Having said that Zabaleta, SWP, Kompany, Given, Barry, Adebayor and Robinho look an absolute snip to me. What we pay for players represents a small part of Hughes' responsibilites as our manager.

I backed him ALL last season.....easy to say that now though.

As for his signings anything less than a 9/10 is extremely harsh.

==================

You don't get off that easily... in our previous discussions I suggested that you hated Hughes because of his background, ie playing for united. You told me that it had nothing to do with this and you didn't want him here because....... 'he is a horrible person'.. or words to that effect. Did you not? I suggest he should be judged on his ability to do his job. Do you agree or not?

Wow.

Talking about taking something I posted and turning it into something totally different.

Paranoia is alive and well on here.
