Hughes

Wonder why so many think we would have beaten the rags in the semi if the change wasn't made.

Was it our wonderful record against them under the former manager?

This semi final lark noone can know so whats the point going on about it!!

Mancini's doing OK just wish people didnt slag Hughes off so easily!

Think he brought the club along way under the circumstances and whether anyoneelse could off done better well just like the semi's we will never know!!

Agreed Hughes has gone now and its down to Mancini (the present incumberant) to take the team to the next level!

He tried to buy a playmaker and a box to box midfielder in January you may remember (or seemingly not), and the fact the deals weren't completed had nothing to do with Mancini.

Well obviously he didn't try hard enough did he! By your logic I should give Hughes credit for trying to sign Kaka.

And which one of the Real and Inter bench warmers he tried to sign is meant to be a playmaker?

Why can't some people admit that Manicini is not perfect and has made some mistakes when it is fairly obvious that he has

Dear me, so as well as being with the lads on the training pitch you also expect Mancini to be jet setting all around the world personally trying to persuade players to come to City? He identifies targets and then it's Cook and Marwood's job to do the rest. He can't do everything and he certainly can't persuade the Government to grant Work Permits!

Mancini isn't perfect and he dropped a major bollock with his selection last night.

Let's keep the criticism realistic though eh?

Yep bet it was just like that thats why the first thing hedid in January was to buy one!!
See above post, you people have very short memories.

Yeah admit they tried but consdering we r going to be the biggest club in the world it was very unprofessional not to do it!!!

It depends what you mean.

Santa cruz I agree and Toure we paid over the odds (due more to our status than Hughes)

But Barry, De Jobg, Bridge,SWP and Ade are ALL good enough to get us in the top 4 surely??

Maybe that sums up the 'second best' attitude of your average City fan.

I don't think any of those players would be anywhere near the first choice of the big three anymore. Ade was at one point (now? Mmm!), SWP and Bridge certainly were reserves and Barry and De Jong probably would be.

Oh, fuck off. Toure, Barry, De Jong, SWP and Santa Cruz will all be at the World Cup, as would Bridge under different circumstances. Adebayor is a proven 20-goal Premiership striker and Zabaleta is a useful and versatile player (and better than the following right-backs - Wes Brown, Paulo Ferreira, Emmanuel Eboue).

We have a good manager, we have good players - we just require a bit of time.

I'm at a loss how anyone can look at our gaggle of one dimensional midfielders he brought to the club with dewy eyes and cry about what could have been.

I'd love to have been with Mancini when he went through the players with Brian Kidd the day he came here.

"Ok, so Barry, Kompany, De Jong and Ireland play in the middle. Which one is our box to box player?"

"None of them boss."

"And our playmaker?"

"Well, Ireland is an attacking midfielder but he's not a playmaker in the mould you would understand."

"For fucks sake"
Pretty much word for word I think that is what they would have said!

Or Bobby Manc's "Impossible"

This is a realistic criticism. We can't blame Hughes for the shortcomings of the squad and then fail to apportion any blame to Mancini for not dealing sufficiently with these shortcomings.

You say Manicini tried to fix these problems, that's all well and good but he failed. He has to take the stick for that.

(Just to be clear here I am in no way defending Hughes here, I'm just saying that Mancini shouldn't be given a free pass on the transfer front either and simply 'trying' to bring in players isn't good enough)

In answer to the original thread, hughes was not up to the job and the jury's out on Mancini. That's my opinion.

Doesn't the fact that Hughes is being lined up for a job at a bottom-half team tell you all you need to know about where his "ceiling" is as a manager, Europa League qualification is about as good as it gets with Hughes IMO. If he was that good he'd bide his time and wait for the Spanish waiter to get the boot.

Hughes took over a team that had finished 9th in the Prem on 55 points. He bought new players for £120 million before and during his first season. He then finished 10th on 50 points.

Before his second season he bought players for another £100 million, but we didn't get much better. How anyone can want him back is beyond me.

Never ceases to amaze me Hughes' champions.

HE is without doubt the MAIN reason why we are not sat pretty in fourth already.

Was found way out of his depth in the transfer market, and wonder what his supporters will think if we miss out on Champs League football by one or two points.

Our paths could cross again in the summer...you never know!

Who wants him back?

Anyway hes going to be LINKED not lined up to any managerial posts that comeup be it West Ham, Bolton, Ivory Coast, Turkey, Liverpool or maybe even United!! Lol

There's too much harsh criiticism of our playing staff going on for me at the moment - in terms of their ability, not performances.

Barry and De jong start every game for England and Holland. Ireland is a top quality young player. Zableta and Kompany can fill in. Our wide players are some of the best in the league.

Maybe we're a player short there but Vieira was not the answer.

not unless the old firm come down to the prem.........

Hear we go, Hughes, Mancini, bloody Jose. The fact is we need to trust in a manager the success will come but people want us in chumps league last year, were not ready. Ok if we got 4th and got into Europa through finishing 3rd in chumps then we would end up where we need to be right now. But if we dont finish 4th we wont get Villa and the other 102 players people on here want, were not ready and that means us fans to. As long as we have god knows how many moaning from the first minute of a game we will get nowhere, we had a chance last night to raise the roof but yet again all i could hear was moaning. Right now we have the players we have, get behind them, the manager and you just might see confidence coming back to certain players, if we are not careful the players will prefer to play away, we have lost once at home for goodness sake

The above isn't a criticism of our players, 'one-dimensional' I agree isn't a glowing review but that doesn't mean those players can't be successful when surrounded by players to compliment them.

We haven't got the right blend. That's my point.

Get abit pissed off with the slagging off of Hughes signings think all of them have been good, maybe abit overpriced due to our status with only RSC being dubious more due to his injury record than his performances!

Its called a step up in the right direction!

Theres no way we were going to attract top world class players with money alone straight away!!

Maybe this transfer window hopefully with the added incentive of Champions League football we will be able to attract the next higherr level of player and so on an so on!

Name me any premiership team who wouldnt wont Tevez, Ade, Bellamy, Given, Kompany or De Jong in there team even Zab and Bridge!!

Not many!!

I think he did ok given the resorces at his diposal, but he did leave us wanting in certain areas.
The relentless persuit of RSC was a bit emabarassing, he stuck solely to PL players. Id of thought a couple of signings in key areas from talent abroad was an 'obvious' option.
For me he played it too safe and lacked in his scouting skills.
He left us with no playmaker which is ridiculous, we are finding it difficult at times to compensate for the lack of.

its all bollox! hughes played 3 derby games against united, lost all 3. we lost to everton at home aswell last season aswell. never slagged him off because i will always try n support the manager but sacking hughes was a good decision. hughes would definitely not have won the carling cup semi final.
