Hugo Viana to be new Director of Football (Official Announcement p17)

its brutal how we found difficult to deal with Bournemouth energy. we were overturned a lot, losing duels, lethargic. schedule is hard for sure but hard for others too. maybe not so much for clubs outside CL-EL, but they have 3rd or 4th of our wage list...

we need a big change in the squad with young and strong players who can and willing to press, track back and throw themselves into attack. as we got comfortable in the market, the team got bit slower, bit more comfortable, less easy on the eye, harder to reinvent ourselves after 4 titles in a row, injuries creeping in much more, we need new momentum given by incoming players. the like of momentum Haaland gave us in his debut season. the momentum Palmer gave Chelsea last season.

we will not be able to go ahead with nostalgia and hanging onto Walker, Gundo, KDB for another few seasons. Kovacic, Stones, Bernardo, Grealish also this category quite soon. important rotational role in time but not a starter week in week out. Kovacic very injury prone based on his track record so its quite luck he has been available since Rodri is off, but we are very light there.

Gvardiol, Doku, Savinho is a good direction but we need more of the same and someone at the level of coming in and delivering first season big time. to give something to think about for others. Wirtz is someone I would deffo prefer.

its a lot about planning and Viana already can look at various players and set the groundwork with Txiki so early next summer we can move with speed. but also Pep need to be hurried about a decision and to be fair it needs to be a renewal of 2 years as another 12 month deal is just represents he is not in for one big rebuild.

Yep, to hear Pep saying we couldn't cope with Bournemouth's energy is a major concern. He's putting this in the players heads now that they're burnt out and they will act upon this accordingly. Hope I'm wrong but I see some trouble ahead

He sarcastically called them a "happy flowers team" about three months before we won the treble. I think the lads can take it.

I don't think there's a real draw manager out there now in the same way as Pep. Klopp is gone, Mourinho's cult has fallen off, Xabi hasn't done enough yet, Ancelotti is not that type, Zidane doesn't have the reputation for improving players, etc.
Xavi might be the closest fit but like Xabi, I'm not sure he's done enough in management for players to be desperate to play for him.

Inzaghi? His football is different but he is one of the best now.
