Huntingdon Train Incident - Reports of multiple stabbings

Yep. The Forest fans up to £31k now on his Just Giving page. Hopefully one will be set up for the LNER worker.
I hope the money covers the bloke who’s a Forest fans wages and expenses until he’s fit to return to his work, I would hope LNER will do the decent thing by the guard as well whether he’ll ever be fit physically or mentally to do the job again who knows.
I can see bloody metal scanners being fitted at railways stations next :-(

I read somewhere that Frank Warren is looking after the Forest fan in and amongst his new found fame, which I’m sure he wishes wasn’t happening.

Samir Zitouni deserves a knighthood. I’m sure the Forest fan does too.

Incredible bravery.

I truly hope Samir recovers and that he is aware of how grateful the British public are to him. Hero.

Worth noting that the previous government wanted to remove all guards from trains. If the RMT hadn’t gone on strike these passengers would have had no train crew to manage the incident on the trains

What is it that you don’t understand, exactly?
I don't understand if this man had mental illness, why did he carry a knife? How would that help his mind unless he thought everyone else was going to kill him. If he had that much paranoia he should be in a mental hospital. This is what I don't understand how many mentally ill people are out there who should really be in a secure mental instituion not on the streets carrying knives and being high on drugs.

You’ve literally answered your own question there.

The issue is that medication works until it doesn’t or isn’t taken.

There’ll be loads of people that would need locking up if medication wasn’t possible. The vast majority of these people cause no issues and get on with their lives as best they can.

I guess there’ll be a review as to whether authorities could have flagged this individual as a danger in time, but it might not have been possible.

I'd love to know why some on here feel the need to try to score political points out of this harrowing event. What do you hope to achieve by it? It's utterly ridiculous. Please take heed of what @cleavers has posted.

Is this really a ridiculous post? Considering how this thread started off when the horrific events happened. Post after post stating who was responsible before the facts were even in.

when people jump to the conclusion that it's Muslim/islam related within minutes then go all quiet when it turns out not to be, they're the ones you should be aiming this at.

We are and you are right-but I don't believe we are 'over populated' -we have simply been underfunded to meet the increasing populaton-it has been a deliberate attempt to move money and resources from those who need it to those with plenty. Stagnant wages, austerity compounded by brexit immigration-and yet there is a significant percentage of people support those who would do the first two with steroids..
So how do you want to deal with this knife wielding scum,Education??

Bit concerning that the lunatic couldn't be tracked down before boarding the train, given the previous incidents.
Also the lack of effective intervention at the station before he got on.
Peterborough station isn't that big. They had his description and image from CCTV?

Now you’re telling me two things. Firstly around my analysis that there is distinction between facts and statistics: that evaluation is ultimately a matter of perception, between what is a fact and what is a statistic. I can live with that because it’s a philosophical point.

But you are also suggesting that my previous personal experience is worthless. Because you haven’t acknowledged it. So therefore it is worthless to you.

Not arsed what you think of me, but I know about knife crime. I know, because sadly, and indirectly, I make good money out of it. If you knew precisely what I actually did for a living you’d understand why.

Hate those jobs. Horrible from start to finish.

Good money? Absolutely. And I know I’m better placed than anyone to deal with it, but I absolutely don’t enjoy them.

So I’d honestly prefer less of that work.

And in my personal experience, over the last half decade, knife crime is definitely up. And possession of knives is definitely more prevalent.
You really wanted to be a sniper but wet work pays well and there's more of it around?

Honest answer? Yes. This is not the political forum. The thread was started to discuss the attack, not for making political points. If you want to engage in political point scoring, which seems important to you, do it in the correct forum. Thank you.

Judging by the post comments/likes seems important to a hell of a lot of posters that the point was to embarrass the folk who jumped to early conclusions. Point taken though no political post whatsoever on any topic except on the relevant threads. :)

100% agree on the point scoring, of any nature, and also fully acknowledge you guys have removed posts from both 'sides'.

There are also lessons to be learned here however, and imho there does need to be some level of reflection. Without the where apparent gloating obviously.
Appreciate your post. But the politics sub forum was created to avoid threads being derailed into blame games and finger pointing. From memory, there were lots of complaints about serious threads being hijacked for political whataboutery. We thought that the creation of a sub forum specifically for political waffling was the way to go. As for sides, we try hard to avoid being seen as favouring one "side" over another.
