Hurricane Irma - coming my way!

Advice needed from somebody ITK, me and Mrs Up North are thinking of booking a late deal in Dominican Republic, from about 25th this month. We have not been before. Should we be alright? Thanks.
Who knows what follows behind this one. In Florida, hurricane season is deemed to be 1st May to 1st November. In my three years here September is the wacky month when anything goes!
I've booked on a cruise 8th - 12th October to the Bahamas - so here's hoping for a smooth ride (or at least an island not wrecked when we arrive there!)

Thanks Mr Screamer, we can't book at the moment due to family commitments, so we will keep an eye open and fingers crossed. Hope all is OK at your end.

Up to category 5. Puerto Rico is going to get destroyed if it keeps its current trajectory. Could be a really bad one this one. Be safe blues.

Message from Adam Ant's management to clarify the situation in Florida regarding hurricane Irma.
Everybody is now in Florida waiting for the first show to start in Fort Lauderdale tomorrow, the path for the hurricane is far south from the areas that Adam is scheduled to play.

There are no plans to cancel or postpone any shows at this moment unless instructed from local authorities or if it is felt that that would be any danger to ourselves or any of the fans.

...
Everybody's safety is paramount.

Pandemonium in the local supermarkets as the shelves are being cleaned out. I'm not off work until Thursday morning (and then have the week off) so nipped out to the supermarket at lunchtime to see what I could get.
Water completely sold out

It'll keep you hydrated, and numb the pain, so good choice.

I would say it is not the next hurricane you need to worry about. There is always a bit of risk in going to that area in Autumn but I think the real issue is what does the Dominican Republic look like on Thursday. This storm is absolutely huge. If it hits the DR with 180 mph winds it will cause serious serious damage.
