Cup Glory Beckons As Road Make Final

There were no slip ups yesterday as goals by Tom Bentham and Rob Brocklehurst saw Maine Road FC build on their 2-1 lead from the first leg and cruise through to the NWCFL Challenge Cup Final. 'Cruise' may not be quite the word, as Norton put up fiesty resistence at times and as is often the case in semi-finals this was not a free flowing performance, but the team got there in the end. Road will play Bacup Borough in the final at Curzon Ashton's ground on Thursday, May 3rd. Be there!

Action from the game can be viewed via this link:

Well done everyone! Well done Hyde!

Congrats and Good luck to MRFC!!! :D

Now what a fantastic idea that is.......!

is it true they are getting the trophy at half time at the Qpr game?

Now if it is Hyde we're talking about nobody will be clapping harder than me....but if Maine Road FC win their final on Thursday 3rd May, then hopefully they might also be given some Etihad time. When all said and done, Road started out as 'City Supporters (Rusholme)' based at the Lord Lyon. When the Social Club was built in the mid-sixties, that became their base and they changed their name to 'Maine Road FC'. They still play in a fabulous sky blue strip with a badge that is basically the City badge that was in place before the current 'kappa' affair. The away strip is the Red & Black strip as sponsored by Didsbury Blues (also good Road sponsorship by Reddish and Dublin Blues).

We play Bacup Borough at Curzon Ashton's ground on Thursday 3rd May in the NWCFL Challenge Cup Final. Will cost about £5 for adults, but with suitable reductions for concessions. It would be great to see as many as possible down there and all the better if City colours are worn.

A fantastic season for Hyde, now back to the even more important stuff :)

Good luck MRFC in the final though :)

I'm trying to go to this one, and they are having a collection to be shared between the families and the Police beneavolent fund

They also have a game coming up v Maine Road - only in the MancPremierCup but close to where I live

I went through a stage of watching Hyde United as a kid in the 90s as I lived in Hyde for a short while. Names that stuck out for me were Colin Little (legend!!), Ged Kimmins, Billy Garton, George Switzer, there was a goalie who was bald in that same team can't remember his name.

A bit latyer I remember seeing a young Efe Sodje there, we used to sing 'He's got a tea towel on his head'. Ah the joys of non-league football.

I remember watching them against Darlington in the FA Cup 1st round at a packed Ewen Fields, and when they got to the FA Trophy Semi-Final I watched both legs home and away vs Northwich Victoria. Great days, shame they didn't get to Wembley as I'd defo have gone.

The goalie was called Arthur Williams. Watched the same team as a kid.

Try and get down when City are not playing.

There is no City game this weekend due to England playing San marino.

Hyde are at home as part of the "Non League Ground Hop Day"

They play Tamworth at 6.30pm at Ewen Field

For anyone interested in the 'ground hop' it includes Macclesfield at 12.30, then coach to Stockport for 3pm kickoff, then coach to Hyde for the 6.30pm kick off - according to the Hyde site you can pay £5 for the coach after the Macc game

More details here http://www.hydefc.co.uk/2012/10/non-league-day-cheshire-groundhop-this-weekend/
