Hyped transfers who turned out to be garbage

This thread seems to have gone from hyped players that turned out to be garbage to simply listing garbage players!

Still some great shouts being made though regardless.

Kudos to those mentioning the Everton players that Kendall signed for us. His whole tenure at City is a huge conspiracy for me. Sell our better players to Everton (i.e. Hinchcliffe) and sign the unwanted dross from Everton - all in preparation for his return to Everton. It's almost the equivalent of playing Football Manager, and adding a manager just so you can sign the players you want and get rid of the players you don't.

That's a fantastic analogy,hahaha!

Hahaha who's that.

It's telling how Kendall, after returning to Everton, didn't sell Hinchcliffe...

And it's just as telling that Kendall, after returning to Everton, didn't try to sign any of City's players, including the ones he did sign (and ahem, "wanted") while in charge of City.

So glad his second spell at Everton was a failure. That guy asset stripped our club and for me was the catalyst for our fall down the league a few years later.

On a different note, I read a piece by Martin Samuel today - this guy I think talks sense usually, but he nevertheless came out with a blinder in his article on Sterling.

Quote from Samuel: "The third tier of English football is an all too recent memory"

Erm, no it isn't. It was 16 years ago. For the grand total of 1 season out of our entire history. It is not, by the very definition of the word, "recent". It was, literally, an anomaly. And yet the way people go on about it, it was as though we were a regular 3rd tier club.

Which is simply not true. The vast majority of our history has been spent in the top flight. In our entire history, we have spent 24 seasons outside of the top flight compared to 87 seasons in the top flight (including the up-coming season). Out of those 24 seasons, we were promoted 13 times. Meaning that we have more than a 50% success rate when it comes to getting out of a lower division.

And yet, despite those facts, Samuel, who usually comes across as a knowledgeable guy, comes out with the garbage statement that he did. That really annoyed me when I read it.

Christian Negoui - I believe Keegan said something along the lines of 'The best player he has ever seen'!

I do have an interesting story about Jo, not sure if I've put it on here before, but here goes...

About 5 years ago I was on a night out with my girlfriend at the time, and ended up talking to a couple who were in their 40's. He was a very rich man and had a holding company in Jersey, and he said that a lot of football transfers were done through his company to avoid tax payments etc. I obviously was interested to hear more, and asked him if he has ever had any City players.

If you don't know how it (apparently) works...Jersey is a tax haven, and so to avoid paying any tax on transfers, football clubs sell the player to a holding company in Jersey who temporarily own the player, and then the buying club buy the player from the holding company, and the holding company take a cut as commission.

He then told me that his company bought Jo for about £4million, and decided to demand £18million for him from the buying club (City) - who obviously went and did it. So though we paid £18 million for him, the selling club only received £4million - and this blokes company pocketed the £14 million difference!

We checked him out online in the morning and he is who he says he is - but whether that story is true or not (I suspect not) is another matter!

His name was Simon Le Tallec and his wife was called Sue Le Tallec. He did give me his card etc. but have lost it now, just remember his name!

Anyway, just thought I'd share that!

Probably the biggest brown envelope he'd ever seen more like.

I doubt that's Kosher about Jo for a couple of reasons.

I do know from my own experience that a lot of foreign footballers legitimately have offshore accounts as they're not UK domiciled but not really heard of transfers being done in this way. In any case, I believe that UK companies can't simply buy something offshore and avoid tax. If you buy something in Jersey as a visitor then you pay 5% local sales tax instead of 20% VAT. You should in theory pay the full duty once you return to the UK. So I doubt his story on that basis (but I could be wrong).

However I know I'm on firm ground when I say we paid nothing like that sum for Jo. It was £6m I'm told.

Remember when KK signed Tyrone Loran and said he was the next Frank Rjikaard .........sold him to Tranmere
