Yep. Lost all four of my grandparents now.

Two to cancer, one to pancreatitis, one to dementia.

I'd pick cancer and pancreatitis every time.

So sorry for everybody's loss, so painful. Sadly the reality of life. Gone through the grandparents, parent's and sibling death.
From all my experiences, the biggest shock was one of my apprentices, we played cricket together, socialised together, then drifted. Couldn't believe it when his wife contacted me and said he had literally dropped dead when walking through his front door, instantly, from a heart attack.
He left three young children, I cannot comprehend the devastation, but for him there was no lingering pain. He was only 50.

Just got on that road ,about 18 months ago now, my wife of 46 years is just a lost soul now.

I seen it with my my mother-in-law, that I loved very much; she looked after me where many didn’t.

It is very hard to witness and good to see the OP reaching out.

Lost my Nan to dementia a couple of years ago, it took 8 long years to make her a shadow of the strong amazing woman who had a huge hand in raising me. I feel for you and everyone else in this thread that has and is dealing with a truly horrible disease.

I know exactly what its like mate, my Mother went through it. She started walking down the street at 3am, said she was going to her Dad's (who been dead 40 years), some days she didn't know me, some days she seemed too. It's horrible. You will get through it mate.

Just got to look after your own, and very difficult when you’re not allowed to.

There's other ways to go. Why heart attack?

It can be quick and painless.

Sorry to hear that, 46 years is incredible, I'm 40 years in 2023, luckily as of today we're both "healthy".

Watching one of the people you love become someone you don't recognise, nor they recognise you.
