I miss Hughes

Well to be fair, Hughes tended to get it together for the big games, he did beat Chelsea, he would have drawn at the swamp if it weren't for the Fergie time.

And with the whole Lescott saga I don't think he'd have lost to Everton.

When people mention mancini's results thus far, they fail to mention the cup games, which haven't been impressive. A 1-0 win against Boro, a win and a loss in the derby (lost by two goals at the swamp against Hughes' 1 goal), and an abominable display yesterday against Stoke.

Hughes had much more difficult cup games imo, (arsenal, Fulham as opposed to Stoke and Boro) but did much better with them.

You can make the stats say whatever you want, but from where i'm sitting we are not scoring goals anymore, the first few games under mancini the attack seemed to be ridig off the coat tails of Hughes' attacking play, and now they have all but dried up. It does not bode well fore top 4 and an FA cup run.

Hmmm i forgot about that....

Mancini beats utd at Eastlands (something Hughes never did)....

As for cup runs... now let me think ha yes... Those awsome giants Brighton and Nottingham Forest, guess we were just outclassed.

I doubt a Mancini team would be unceremoniously dumped from cup competitions by lower league opposition...

OK that point is not relevant. Hughes hadn't spent any of that money when we played Brighton OR Forest (other than Robinho, and enough said about him) - at that point we had a shit team, it wasn't just that the team was not Hughes team, it was just utter pish. We had no strikers as they were all injured or whoring themselves out to Chelsea/holding the club to ransom. but with the same team that Mancini is playing with now, Hughes had a good cup run and could beat the big teams. And scored lots of goals.

When Hughes was hear everyone said he had to go because we had such a good squad and he couldn't get them playing together, now that Mancini is also struggling, suddenly everyone says the players are not good enough. Well make your mind up!

there is some very odd negativity aimed at mancini. every negative is exaggerated, his past achievements are rubbished. the facts don't seem to matter to some people. they are simply making it up as they go along. I lose count of the times that people have said Inter were a successful club when he took over. It's just wrong, check your facts, they hadn't won a trophy in 15 years. Calciopoly clearly played a part. but he made the most of that opportunity, and made them a completely dominant force in italian football. so far at Inter, Mourinho hasn't done anything that outstrips Mancini's achievements in any way whatsoever.

people can't bring themselves to admit that since he arrived we have made ourselves favourites for the top four (check the bookies). he narrowly missed out in the semi, and we are still in the draw for the FA cup (still favourites to proceed into the next round in fact). If you don't like the recent performances, fair enough, but at this stage of his tenure it is plainly ridiculous to pretend that he has been anything else than a (qualified) success.

maybe some people need to have a look at themselves. ignoring the facts makes it seem as though you are being wilfully negative. some of the defeatism is just laughable. it's like seeing people wallow in self-pity. it's bad enough at any time, but when we have the opportunity to take this club to the next level, to over-achieve on our targets this year, it's beyond a joke. I find it hard to completely ignore the thought that some people are showing their true colours.

Can't realy argue with that. Well, you can.

Fuck Inter. We aren't Inter. Paragraph one redundant.

Favourites for top four. That's us and six other teams then - still, Like it was in August 2009. We missed out on the semi - Mancini had fuck all to do with us getting there anyway. We're still in the FA Cup though, against a team that, shouldn't we beat them under MH would probably be a reason to sack him.

Its not wilfull negativity, its being pissed off. We seem to be going from ok to shite. I'm all for giving RM the sane time as MH, but he's boring me to fucking tears.

but we are now favourites out of the four teams. that is a cast iron improvement.

we've gone from thrilling but underachieving, to ruthlessly efficient, to kind of bobbling along. it's all part of a bigger journey. we've gone from failing to get the wins, to getting them, most of the time. it is progress. it's not the final destination but it is progress. the first step was to sort out the defence, to get them into shape and to make it hard to penetrate the box.... (job done?) and to stop everyone else bombing forward mindlessly, to get them to think about what they were doing.... I think right now some players are struggling with that a bit, and they have stopped seizing the opportunity for attack. that's certainly how it looked to me yesterday. If that's how Mancini wants them to play, I would be very very disappointed, and it wouldn't fit in with the way his Inter team dominated opponents... it seems more likely to me that we are still in the learning process. I don't want to blame players, but I have always had my doubts as to how tactically aware quite a few of our players are. I honestly think Mancini has told them they have to attack responsibly, but some of them don't really understand how to do that, and are being over cautious as a result.

Sparky....as much spark as a dud lighter....dour welshman...managed a dour welsh team....managed a dour Blackburn team....managed a dour City team....best rid!

So when we started beating teams that we don't normally beat (a la Blackburn, Chelsea, Arsenal? in the league), in pretty thrilling circumstances, that don't count? Think we achieved those wins there, laird!

I thought our first step was getting wins instead of draws and draws where we got defeats? Pretty sure we were doing that too. Sure some tweats moaned about drawing with Burnley and mindlessly bombing forward has been replaced by mindedly (is that a word?) holding. Yes some players are struggling with it, coz they aint fucking Italian (pardon ez mois).

Take off your Hughes tinted glasses and look at the actual results.

This season: MH 1.6 points per game RM 1.8.

We are 4th equal on points with 2 games in hand. Possibly 2 points behind 3rd! In his first month in charge Mancini did something Hughes couldn't do in a season and a half. Beat the rags!

We are much better off than we were under Hughes. We have a manager with a world class reputation. We have learned to defend. Our points per game average is up. We have discovered 2 new youngsters who have proved they are up to the riggers of top class football.

The bookies know whats going on even if you don't.
