if we do end up paying over 30mill+
i can see why other supporters call city a joke.

I don't think any club will let us have a player for a reasonable price anymore. They will all fleece us. Does that make us a joke or is it just a fact of life when you have loads of money and a club knows you want one of their players? I don't see what alternative we have apart from not signing anyone tbh.
I agree with you that we'll rarely/never pay what a player is actually worth but we need to draw a line somewhere, Milner isn't the only midfielder in the world and we should have other targets lined up if Villa start getting silly. I've no problem us paying a bit over the odds but I hate seeing us taken the piss out of as we were with Santa Cruz and Lescott.

Well with the invention of the Homegrown Rule and the fact most of our homegrowns are not gonna hack it at the very top we will pay silly money for em

I know we have to draw the line somewhere, totally agree. I also realise that there are other midfielders about. The problem is that those clubs will charge massive fees for those players too. Anyone who is either really good or at least has a really good reputation is going to cost us a fortune. The only players who might represent some value are players who are coming to the end of their contracts or who are obviously hugely unsettled at their clubs. I can't see us limiting ourselves to players in those categories. I am sure we will draw the line on players but alas, I suspect that line will, through necessity, be ridiculously high.

I'm praying we don't sign Milner. His performance last night confirmed something I've long suspected that he's a decent player whose found his level at Villa and will not make an impact at a top club or in international football. I'd take Joe Cole, Arteta or Gourcuff all day every day before Milner.

I'm not just going off last nights match, that just reminded me when I saw him! When you look at that England team now it is just filled with average Premiership players, the likes of Milner, Walcott, Huddlestone, Defoe, Dawson, Carragher, Baines.

Sorry cant agree that Huddlestone, Dawson and Defoe are average. Dawson has been top class all season for Spurs.

I am astonished that we haven't been more heavily linked with Joe Cole. On a Bosman, experience of huge games and winning things and can play on the left or behind the striker(s). He'd be a fantastic signing and although his wages would be huge, we wouldn't be getting the usual fleecing by a club on top of that.

If we bought Milner for anything more than about £8m-£10m I think we will have made a huge mistake! I really don't rate the guy, he works hard and you can't fault his attitude but i've seen him play numerous times for England and Villa and never seen him do anything special...at all! He scores a few goals yes but thats about it.

I really can't get excited over the prospect of signing him!

But you rate Bojinov hhmmmmm

My immediate thoughts too!
