"I would rather lose a tournament than break my word to a player"

I see you didn't read my post, it is understandable, it was long. But here it is on short:

Pellars statement wasn't just about him, it was about the club! Implied by his ' I'd rather lose the Cup, than go back on my word' was the addition "because it is what's best for the club."

How I came to that conclusion is what's in the response that was to long. I wouldn't bore you with that. You can refer to it if you see fit.
Well in the spirit of keeping things short and sweet, you're again making a supposition of what Manuel meant by that statement and fluffing it up with a whole host of other things.

I pay my money to see us win and win in style (if possible). So pardon me for being concerned when our manager says he'll sacrifice a win to save one players feelings. And again, if Manuel was so concerned about player's feelings, why didn't he give a second thought for dropping Jovetic from our CL squad? Poor, poor Jovetic hey, he must be feeling like a proper second class Citizen right now.......

Please feel free to explain that one.....

Fuck me, some still saying he was wrong? Caballero was buoyed by that trust. Put joe in and we could lose that shootout. Its all about confidence in your ability. We knw willy is great at saving pens. Add to that the confidence that pellers gave him and ladies and gents, we have just won the fucking cup. That is management. I was linded to it till now, and i apologize to manuel, and most importantly big willy!

EASY read or listen to the full interview he says I trust Willy and his ability I watch him train everyday

Would it not be poor management to make a promise to a player and then go back on that promise ?

How would we ever build a squad the players would not come or trust the manager

The club clearly have higher aspirations than the Capital One Cup and FA Cup. In an ideal world we'd win all 4 competitions but I don't think you'll see us or anybody else win all four in a single season, it's nigh on impossible with the amount of games and intensity in England. The club have clearly told the second choice goalkeepers they'll play in those two cup competitions, even before Pellegrini's time because Pantilimon played when Mancini. The reason for that is to attract the best goalkeeper they can as second choice, as you never know when he'll be needed in the Premier League and Champions League. By breaking the promises made we would risk other goalkeepers not wanting to come because they wouldn't trust the club in they got to another final that the first choice wouldn't play in front of him.

Potentially sacrificing a cup win for a better squad in the 2 main competitions is to me and a lot of fans completely understandable.

Exactly this the only other way is to have a keeper near the end of his career who could coach or play if we are desperate, someone like Tim Howard or Shay Given and they would be happy on the bench
But it comes down to trust and the managers principles, Willy had to play .
The same could be said about outfield players and attracting back up ,Bony gets slated on here but whoever comes to City is always going to play second fiddle to Sergio.
I realise there is more chance of rotation with outfield players however they all want to play the big games .Football in the modern era is now a squad game. The managers job is to get the best out of the squad and keep everyone happy and motivated .
