The BBC are desperate to save some money so they can continue to fund the executive lifestyle and salaries of their upper management whilst simultaneously forgetting that they are a public service broadcaster and funded directly by the TV licence that we are all obliged to pay. I wouldn't put it past them to be putting the squeeze on local radio so they can drive down listening figures in order to justify binning it off in favour of a cheaper, wider regional network.
That's been the case for some time, they use R5 for Champions league commentaries a fact which has caused a stink locally, all part of cost savings. the phone ins give preference to lower league callers. A complete shift in priorities
