Manchester City are weighing up a move for Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to reports in France.

New City boss Manuel Pellegrini has joined Real Madrid in the chase for the Paris Saint-Germain striker, who struck 33 goals for the French champions last season, report L’Equipe.

Ibrahimovic is reported to be one of several PSG players who are unsettled after the departure of hugely popular coach Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid.

With Edinson Cavani set to complete his move to PSG from Napoli next week, Ibrahimovic is understood to be open to a move away from the French capital.

Earlier this week, Ibrahimovic’s agent, Mino Raiola, approached Madrid chiefs with the ambition of persuading the Spanish giants to buy the forward, who has won league titles with six different clubs in four countries.

City, meanwhile, are in the hunt for a new goalscorer after allowing Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez to leave the club in the last six months and a £20million for the flamboyant Swede is believed to be under consideration.

Maverick: Ibrahimovic destroyed England for Sweden when the two countries played last November
Sportsmail understands that Pellegrini has identified Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo and Fiorentina’s Stevan Jovetic as the two forward he would most like to bring in - but a move for former Inter Milan and Barcelona star Ibrahimovic could take precedence should City fail to land their top summer targets.

In his first press conference as City manager this week, Pellegrini admitted that he is determined to add some firepower to his ranks ahead of the new season.

He said: ‘We have two strikers at the moment and we need another one. We need a stronger squad with two players in each position.’

Dont want him.

Not because of his ability. He is proberly the best CF in the world. But because of his personality. All the stories from his former clubs. He does look like a big time ego. He has to be center of attention. Players in PSG is afraid of him. I honestly think he will destroy more off the field than he will help us on the field.

He is a twat

Not for me.extremely talented individual, unfortunately the lad knows it and sees himself as Gods gift to the world.would cause to much trouble in the dressing room.Negredo is more sensible and his goal scoring stats aren't too bad either ;)

Madrid have rejected him according to Marca

Wantaway Ibrahimovic rejected by Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti's move to Real Madrid has stirred up a hornet's nest at Paris Saint-Germain. Laurent Blanc has stepped into the breach and the PSG dugout, but several disenchanted players are thinking about following the Italian out of the exit door.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic is one such player. The Swedish marksman has a great relationship with Ancelotti, which helps explain why Ibra's agent, Mino Raiola, explored the possibility of his client joining up with his former boss at the Bernabéu.

Raiola offered the seasoned hitman to Real Madrid for just €20 million, aware that 'Los Blancos' are in the hunt for a centre forward. What's more, Ibrahimovic even volunteered to sweeten the deal by agreeing to take a pay cut on his €15-million-a-year PSG deal, instead settling for €12 million a season after tax in Madrid.

'Los Blancos', however, turned the approach down flat, deterred by the striker's wage demands – despite his willingness to compromise – his age and his personality.

A possible return to Juventus had also been mooted for the Swede, but the Italian champions look well stocked up front following the signings of Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tévez.

Nevertheless, with his wife also pushing for a move, having struggled to settle in the French capital, Ibrahimovic and his representative continue to shop around for possible suitors.

He is, together with Sergio, one of the few that wakes up my fanboy instincts....but my lover for City is stronger and the way we are going he is not what we need. A couple of years ago he would have been perfect.

Difficult to see this happening for City but options for Ibra seem to be low at present.

Plus point we get one of the best if not the best Centre Forward in the World.

Downside - his attitude appears to be more trouble than its worth.

If Pellegrini thinks he is worth it then I go with the Manager and we see how it plays out.

I thought Jovetic and Negredo would be quality signings, still do. Ibra is just at a different level though.

What stories?

-- Fri Jul 12, 2013 10:27 pm --

What attitude problems with Ibra? Give more specifics.

Wins the title everywhere he goes, seems to be a good luck charm. The kind of class we don't have yet, worth a punt in the short term.
