When Santorini/Thera blew in ancient times it devastated the whole of the central Med especially Crete virtually wiping out the Minoan civilisation
Yeah ancient times, thousands and thousand of volcanos have blown since and hundreds erupt every year....the difference with this one? What could it be? Oh yeah ...it was on Sky news, so you know about this one and it worries you yet the hundreds of others in the last few years that sky didn't report didn't bother anyone
Yep, except and until the one that really f*cks everybody up, because we couldn't predict it. Shit occasionally happens. (Google Toba). Thera/Santorini/Atlantis might have been a few thousand years ago, but just because it was doesn't mean it isn't going to happen again. Just because we're here now means sh*t. Somebody, somewhere, some time will cop for a big one sooner or later. Granted, we are no longer in the Bronze age, but anybody that thinks this sort of stuff has suddenly stopped because modern Homo sapiens are occupying parts of the planet, and have tablets and mobile thingies and that means it will all go away, are living in cloud cuckoo land. This has been going on for a long time (circa 4.5 billion years). One of these days we are going to get hammered by something;
Massive volcanic eruption, asteroid impact, or our own stupidity. Any idiot that thinks that this is how it is, so this is how it will always be, is seriously in for a nasty wake up call (and knows f*ck all about geology). Maybe not in our lifetime, but the law of averages says it will happen sooner or later.
Whether this species survives it is a big question. Might be better for the planet if we don't. Species come, species go. Been happening for at least 3.5 billion years. Will the planet miss us?
