Alera you moan at the squad being Hughes's fault but the better performers in our team have all been Hughes signings. Effectively Mancini has cost us a lot of games this season. The decision to send Bellamy out on loan and keeping Jo, playing players out of position (Dzeko, Adebayor, Milner etc), persistence of zonal marking leading to more goals being conceded from set pieces and the defensive conservative approach to games against the Arsenals, Chelseas (we were lucky against them and had 1 shot on goal), and the man uniteds. Given time Hughes would have done a better job, or at least we would be playing more attacking attractive football with more chance of winning these matches. At the end of the day if we finish 5th we haven't improved on last season and if you asked the aim of the team at the start of the season it was to challenge for the title and without doubt finish in a top 4 place. A top 4 place at the start of the season was seen as a cert, by the pundits, media and our staff. There wasn't any question of finishing below that, and if we don't finish in the top 4 you can bet Tevez is off, Yaya Toure is off and maybe a load more, leaving us with the original Hughes players. Sacking Mancini if we don't get a top 4 spot would be seen as ambition in my opinion, following the recent disaster of finishing 5th!
I agree with continuity and teams at the top sticking with a manager long term but if Mancini doesn't get top 4 this season, he obviously isn't the right man for the job. He's had a full season and to not make our bottom target would be laughable.
