Ilkay Gundogan - 2016/17 Performances

A lot of people are saying he's like Lampard. If so, it would be great, but I think that is not quite who he is: I think he'll create more goals and score fewer than Lampard... Either way, we've for a potential gem here.

Spanish Dave is obviously still a major force, but with Gundogan and KDB, the post-Silva future has never looked better.

The thing for me is Dave just doesn't score enough. Fabulous player, but consistently and reliably goes to pieces when a goalscoring chance arises. It's basically got to be a complete sitter, or Dave bottles it. And he bottles most of the sitters too. If he could just add Gundogan's coolness in the box, Dave would be the such a better player.

Bayern goes for every interesting player that is available. Like all of the top clubs. And that they first look in their own country and are only interested in the players that can help them is understandable, too. But the Firminos, Ozakis, deBruynes, Özils, Mustafis, Gündogans, Mhkytarians etc. just show that they do not go for everybody or that they cannot get everybody.

That Barca and Bayern with their midfields wanted him just show his quality. That is why I mentioned it. That they did not go to the end was due to his injuries and the wage demands of last season. This season probably would be different as he was mainly injury free the recent season. But - Pep and City have done their business with the player very early.
I was only messing.

Although he did miss a couple of similar shots recently - and his history doesn't really suggest he'll score often - He has played 10 games and this is already his best goal-scoring season ever (joint 1st) with 5.

I'm optimistic but I'm going to wait and see if he's going to be a regular goalscorer from midfield. It may very well be that he just didn't get those opportunities under Klopp/Tuchel, and Guardiola has moved him further forward that's for sure.

If he can give us 10-15 goals a season from midfield though, our attack is nearly perfect.
I'll definitely take a bet on over 10.

Has shown that if we want to walk the ball into the net then he will be the man to apply that finishing touch.

+1 Love him though

Before we get too carried away by how much of a bottler Dave is in front of goal...

Thats 37 for Silva and 15 for Gundogan in the same time.

Gundogan never played in an attacking role from dortmund though did he?

Yeah he did at times and he had a lot of license to go forward even when he was playing as an 8 - and he wasn't shifted out wide at times like Silva was.

I'd be more than happy for Gundogan to score 15 a season for us in that role and if he does I'd be the first to say that makes him better goalscorer, but 1 week isn't enough time to suddenly declare how much of a better goalscorer he is than Silva.

To be fair the stats suggest it would be unfair to judge his goalscoring form at Dortmund, as he has already surpassed any of those seasons this season. Plus Dave plays further forward and played more games in that time.

When all is said and done, I would expect the 2 to be on similar scoring stats, less goals than Sterling and De Bruyne but more than Dinho.
