Ilkay Gundogan - 2016/17 Performances

He played a lot further forward today and it worked. As I've said before him, KDB and Silva in the same team doesn't work at the moment as he needs space to play.

Did he remind anyone of Lampard today? Thats a performance as similar to Frank as it could be. He still shys away a bit from a tough 50/50, which will improve once he gains confidence in his fitness. Mind you when everyone said he was a crock I never expected him to play so many games already.

Is it just me or is there something about his look that reminds me of Frank Lampard senior?

He was great today...played some lovely passes which we have struggled recently with teams sitting back....2 nice goals as well....maybe in Gundo and KDB we have goal scoring midfielders to replace Yaya....

Was thinking exactly the same. The timing of his run and finish for the fourth was textbook Lampard. His running style is even similar.

Yeah I was signing on to this thread to offer just that opinion as to running/finishing style. Glad to see I'm not alone in thinking so!

Have friend who works in Dortmund and watches Borrussia regularly, rated this guy as the best midfielder in the Bundersleague two years ago until he pick up several injuries in the last eighteen months or so. Thinks that once he gets up to,full fitness he will run the show for City he says he's that good and has an amazing range of passes.

De Bruyne did pick him out that is for sure. He will continue to make those runs and I am sure more goals will come as a result of that.

Hope so. All that possession control is only worth it if you can find those runs. The more he and DeBryune play together the better they'll be at picking each other out on early runs.
