Then we don't really need a tackler, header, runner, playmaker, creator, or basically anyone any good at anything in that position.

So we needn't worry about replacing Fern when the time comes, as that performance by Gundogan, where he basically has done noting at all for 180 mins, is 'fine'.

We're already in the market for Fernandinho's replacement. Gundogan's doing fine.

Gundogan does have a different set of skills to Fern; there's no doubt about that. His movement off the ball is excellent; he can receive the ball in tight areas with ease; he is very adept at receiving the ball on the half turn; he can begin attacks quickly; he is a strong runner with the ball and can score goals. I would much rather focus on what a player can do. Some focus on what they can't but given his history with us, I am delighted to have another player of his quality on board.

So if the rumours are true & we sign Fred, which of City's midfielders do you think will lose the most appearences next season, to accomodate him ?

And if he'd signed in Jan, do you think Gundogan would have played the last two games ?

He's had a couple of vibrant performances in europe in particular, where you think 'this is what Pep signed him for' then a week later he's back to being the non Superman version of Stephen Ireland.

Lol yea he can be inconsistent. Personally think we should sell him while his value is highest. Another injury and he’s done. More so mentally then physically. Bigger risk to keep him than to sell but don’t think it will happen as the club has problems selling players when they should.

We didn't sign Gundogan as cover, we signed him as one of the absolute best mids in europe.

He has to reach that level again.

I can accept some of the criticism of him but as ever it goes way over the top.

That game the other night, only one player had a higher passing percentage than him and only one had more interceptions than him, just highlighting that for a bit of balance.

I don't think he will stay on for that much longer if he doesn't find his top level, as he'll become such a peripheral figure.

It's a simple thing imo, either he's lost it because of injury, or he still has it but it's just taking him time to get back to full match fitness. If it's the latter, then he'd still be an absolute key player, as the Gundogan at Dortmund was a special player & a bargain signing.

If he still has that in him, we should really start to see it soon.

Bernardo Silva, Foden & others are all going to start getting more games as time goes on. New signings in the summer. Gundogan needs to step up.

Yes but a lot of those passes, were exactly the kind of passes which the computer guys on here argue like fuck that we can't have in this team.

Someone gives an absolute masterclass of uninspired passing, missed opportunities for through balls & dangerous lapses & the same people say it's perfectly ok.

Gundogan at times, was like an English national team centre mid. Just not ready to receive the ball & do something with it.
