I am not saying it is, and I definitely have no inside knowledge, but it *could* be a play to push City in contract negotiations (e.g. “I love this club and don’t want to leave, but if the club can’t offer a reasonable deal...”).

It absolutely could, quotes from him recently where he says his next contract will be his last big one, obviously he wants that contract to be as lucrative as possible.
 
Don’t think he justifies being paid as much as the top earners at the club, eg Kevin, Sergio. sterling. That’s if he is asking for that
 
His body of work for us does not justify a big contract. He has only started to show signs of improvement very recently.if he doesn't like it, he can go elsewhere, he is far from indispensable.
 
He's a really good player and bang in form. He is in the process of contract negotiations and is saying positive things so lets see how it pans out instead of accusing him of stuff like only playing well to get a rise. That's just shite that others would never be accused of
