Ilkay Gundogan - 2018/19 performances

I'd prefer Gundogan to stay as I see him as a useful squad member who is not so good that Fodem can't get past him in a year or 2.

It's an unnecessary cost and any new big money signing would be a major road block to foden.

From Ilkay's point of view though he probably is too good to just be happy sitting on a bench through his prime years. When Pep made him his first signing he probably didn't imagine hed end up with this role after 2 horrendous injuries. I couldn't blame him for wanting to go somewhere like Spurs or even Chelsea where hed start every week and be a star.

Good riddance. Never, ever saw him as committed. Playing to impress right now.

Think you may be right in that he is playing to impress recently.

Based on Pep’s comments looks like we gave him a great offer and he is considering leaving anyway.

Pep also said we may look to strengthen in 3-4 positions. He may have said this with Ilkay leaving in mind.

I wouldn’t complain at all if he left. The question is for management now. If he doesn’t resign by summer, do we sell? Or let him run his contract down? He’s also getting older and he’s injury prone so I think it’s really best to sell him while he has value if he doesn’t sign.

Gundogan is probably thinking about leaving to a club where he would be definitely 1st choice. If he has two similar offers, does he stay at City where he won a lot already but he’s not first choice or try something new where he would be one of the first names on the team sheet. Think he would really shine in Italy or back in Germany. Would be happy with £20m-£30m.

Agree id like him to stay but if he is unwilling to sign a new contract we have no option but to sell.

Only players committed 100% to the club, are needed here. Anything below that should not be here past the next transfer window!
As much as I like Gundogan, he has a choice to make befor the club make it for him!

Doesn't sound promising that he will sign,we can't let him run his contract down when we can get decent money, look to sell him in the summer then,if he is frozen out he'll go,shame

we can't force him out, and we won't freeze him out. I suspect (like Raz) this is just him and us trying to get the best deal possible, and agreement will be reached

If we do sell him I doubt we would buy a replacement. Buy a quality left back and fernandinho successor and we will have foden and Zinchenko for Gundo's squad place
