Ilkay Gundogan - 2018/19 performances

I've found something else he is awesome at......Irony!

"We were not brave enough in the game, there were many simple mistakes. I have the feeling that we are nervous in important Champions League games. We have always made the wrong decisions."
I read that last night and thought the same. Don't get me wrong he was one of our better performers but his first thought is to always turn back on himself. There was a space of 3 mins in the second half where laporte picked up the ball to go forwards and both times it got to gundogan he smacked it back to the goal keeper. When he drove forwards he looked like our main attacking threat so it's a shame.

He should always look forward and release ball quickly, but did everything opposite of that last night.

We didn't have enough receiving options up front, our fullbacks were much deeper than usual.

I would interpret Ilkay's statement of "being too fearful going forward" as direct criticism
towards Pep's setup, as Ilkay felt we were very limited in our build-up play.

If we need to improve the transition from defence to AMs
we should drop a creative player in possession to build up.
Dinho isn't the right man under pressure, Ilkay or David could do that. KDB too.

But then we need to push up a bit higher and add some long balls, which we didn't as well.

Again, or creative department didn't have enough free options,
instead our back 4 were rotating the ball without any sense nor accuracy, not finding the AMs.
Spurs have achieved exactly what they wanted, us having the ball with the wrong players.

Pep has some homework for next Wednesday, hope he will find the right balance.

He does enjoy a grudge does our F.I. , Gundogan was one of the "bravest" players on the pitch against Spuds , no irony in that.
A grudge? not remotely.I just don't rate the lad particularly highly as he has done nothing during his time here to warrant such.

As a signing he's been a 6/10.We need 8 and above.

Hopefully his replacement will be.

He played 48 games in 2018/19 , and contributed to a record breaking team performance , he cost £25m and despite his injuries has been excellent value for money , it appears Pep also rates him very highly and wants him to sign a new contract , maybe Pep has seen something you have continually missed , i will go with Pep's opinion i think he knows what he is doing

You'll take Pep view over that of our resident Gundogan expert? Give your head a wobble. No one knows Gundogan like @FantasyIreland .

Fuck what Pep thinks or what the facts suggests, we all need to learn to defer to FI's birds eye view of the matter...

i can accept some posters do not like a certain player and a difference of opinion is healthy on a football forum , it would be very boring otherwise , but obsession is not a healthy trait , when this thread goes quiet he even has to go on the Palace match thread to continue his little vendetta , so best leave him to it , its all becoming quite amusing now.
