Indeed.
But more than that, even when he has a bad day, creates nothing & goes missing defensively in key moments, it's a good day.
So he's even better than anyone can imagine.
Do you honestly think that if he was defensively inept and didn't offer anything creative then he would be anywhere near a Pep starting 11?
Of course he will give the ball away and sometimes be out of position but that's football. The fact is that he is trusted but arguably one of the best managers ever in one of the best teams to ever play in the premier league. If you don't rate him then that's up to you but I would guess Pep gets the nod over you when it comes to judging players.
No, I wouldn’t have. You have a clear dislike with Gundo, which is fair enough, it’s your opinion. Calling him a liability though because he lost two challenges is laughable. He’s been our best midfielder this season, in terms of consistency. He was one of our best players against Leicester, but you focus on two challenges he lost, which could happen to any player.
Of course i will focus on the two incidents that could have lost us the points, because everything else pales into insignificance given the potential consequences his involvement could have had.
When you say he 'lost' two challenges i'll have to disagree on the grounds he might as well have not been on the field such was his lack of effort/desire - hence my use of the word liability. This is why never in a month of Sundays can he be described as a Defensive midfielder, yet despite the constant evidence of a lack of necessaries......some still keep attributing that title upon him.
I'll acknowledge he also does some wonderful things with the ball, his vision and reading of the game at times is unrivalled.......however,as Neville has said, this thread is comical/weird given the strange/undeserved protection he receives on the occasions he lets us down.
I agree. He isn’t a defensive midfielder, he’s more a deep lying playmaker. I don’t expect him to win as much tackles as Fernandinho, because he isn’t that sort of player. What I do expect off Gundo is contributing more with the ball, which he does well. Our record with Gundo at DM is shit hot, but nah, he loses a few challenges so he’s a fanny/liability/useless. He deserves all the protection he’s getting from me, he’s a good footballer, been our most consistent midfielder this season and helped us win trophies, potentially another two within the next 7 days.
