Ilkay Gundogan - Done Deal

A big NO for me. Both for City and for Ilkay's sake.

You wrote the storybook ending. Leave it at that. If it's not working at Barca, he should retire to his boyhood club.

Gundo coming back here would simply upset the applecart.

Rodri, Phil, Kevin and Bernardo. We already have 4 players for the middle. One of whom won't start in the big games.

We have Kova and Nunes as backups. With Grealish as a potential option.

Also, it's a different City from the one he left. Different players have assumed differently roles etc. I don't want Gundogan playing the Nunes role.

But that's just me. This is not exciting News.
Nunes needs fucking off, a rare mistake from the board, he’s nowhere near the level

I’d take him now, and get him on the road to getting his coaching badges, then when he’s not playing sit him on the coaching bench to learn from Pep, and give him a role as youth coach, and in four or five years, he can become the new Pep. This season he might not get in the side regularly, but he showed in the Euros he still has the ability, get him for a song as long as we get rid of Cancelo, no brainer for me.

What’s the Nunes role?

If it gets done great, but I am also thinking that City should send a message to players who think grass is greener slmewhere else (and I love Gundo and I understand his decision).

I feel that if we get him back the message to all our players is: go and try something else and if you were good with us and the transfer didn't work, you just come back and play with us again. As much as I love Gundo, I think maybe sending a different messagemight be more imoortant.

Either way I'll be happy.
He'd be the perfect one to explain to them that they need to be absolutely certain that they want to leave, because in 99% of cases they will not get the opportunity to come back. This is a unique set of circumstances

What's interesting is that if we had been quicker to offer Gundo a two year deal last season he would have signed and still be here. How many saying don't bring him back would be saying we should be selling him now. We are a few players light IMO and he and Bruno G would be ideal. Experience to help the younger players flourish as well as being able to rest and rotate. Imagine resting Rodri, KDB and Silva and replacing them with Gundo, Bruno and one other. And if we bring him back we can continue singing we've got Rodri and Gundo...
