Ilkay Gundogan - Done Deal

Nunes needs fucking off, a rare mistake from the board, he’s nowhere near the level
Yeah, that's why he gets 5 minutes every 3rd game. He actually has a special talent that can be useful in desperate situations or against some types of teams.

I don't want our beloved Gundo in that role. He needs to go back to a team where he is a full-time starter. Maybe Nuremberg or Dortmund.

Not City.

Yeah I can see this happening..

Pep brought back Lillo, Maresca so I could see Gundogan coming back.

I always thought of Gundo as our future manager in waiting more than Kompany.

Lilli, Marcesca, Arteta etc. werent players under Pep before going into coaching...

I understand where you're coming from, but I think Gundo would be an invaluable mentor for McAtee. Gundo might take some of his minutes this year, but McAtee will be better for it in the future.

We're short a midfielder or two as is - plenty of game time to go around!

Cole Palmer did fuck all for Man City despite being surrounded with 'mentors' like Gundogan. It wasn't until he got consistent amount of playing time that Cole Palmer became the player he is now. The same is true for Phil Foden.

Better option then nunes

Not a high bar tbh.

People saying no to this deal ahah! Imagine going into a cl semi final with Nunes in central midfield over gundogan

Nunes wouldn't be anywhere near in a UCL semi-final game like Kalvin Phillips was.

Would be great for him to return great role model of a player

A young player needs playing time for improvement and increase his value for the club. The idea of being 'role model' is overrated.

I imagine everyone is also thinking longterm. His next steps after a year or so are coaching. We can have that internal transition if he returns.

Gundogan can become an assistent immediately after his retirement as professional footballer if he wishes so. It doesn’t justify him taking up a squad spot.

Does this mean City would have to pay a fee after he left on a free !!

Yes since Gundogan's contract expires in 2026

Depends what his aims are. To play every week, it ain’t happening. He’s had a year of that though and might be happy to be squad player for the smell of silverware again.
And finish his career here whilst also learning for his future. It’s perfect.
