Ilkay Gundogan - Done Deal

IMHO, Man City should really follow the same path as Real Madrid under Florentino Perez (2nd term) about never re-signing aging club legends on the wrong side of 30.

They have never even entertained the idea of bringing in back the likes of Cristiano, Benzema, Sergios Ramos whom all wanted return to the club.
Oscar Bobb is out until January at the earliest and this gives us a world class player who is more than capable of filling in multiple midfield roles and being the false 9 for Haaland where required. Plus he already has chemistry with the team and Pep.

This is an absolute steal if it happens. Plus he didn't exactly look past it last season.

After listening to his many after game interviews and seeing no discernible pattern of play or plan after 3 years I’d like to think those opinions have been changed.

They certainly have, but when you never actually watch Ajax outside of a few lucky-ish Champions League wins, and never actually see a Ten Hag interview, it's easy to see how people got swept up in the hype. It's easy to forget that playing attacking, possession-based football is much easier when you are playing against Eredivise teams.

The internet is crawling with football hipsters desperate to prove that they know better than most about the more obscure leagues. They are the ones who started this narrative that Ten Hag was a football genius and the perfect Pep replacement and you can hardly blame 'average' fans (I include myself in that) for taking their word for it.

Lilli, Marcesca, Arteta etc. werent players under Pep before going into coaching...

Cole Palmer did fuck all for Man City despite being surrounded with 'mentors' like Gundogan. It wasn't until he got consistent amount of playing time that Cole Palmer became the player he is now. The same is true for Phil Foden.

Not a high bar tbh.

Nunes wouldn't be anywhere near in a UCL semi-final game like Kalvin Phillips was.

A young player needs playing time for improvement and increase his value for the club. The idea of being 'role model' is overrated.

Gundogan can become an assistent immediately after his retirement as professional footballer if he wishes so. It doesn’t justify him taking up a squad spot.

Yes since Gundogan's contract expires in 2026
You are having a right mare on this thread, it is almost like you dont know how the club works ...

Also gives us a year to find a more permanent 6 back up too and for players to emerge as well.
