Implication of 25 squad rule is going to be weird...

I thought the FA wanted to encourage teams to bring players through their academys and particularly to have more English players in first team squads. This 25 man idea means that a lot of academy players once they get to 21 will be ejected from the squad because although they count towards the 8 homegrown if a team already has it's quota of eight of these then they are just an extra place taken in the 25. Ireland and M.Johnson may have long since been ejected if this had always been in place. Surely a player that's come through the academy should be able to count in the 8 homegrown but NEVER count as one of the 25 regardless of age. This makes much more sense.

only hav'in 3 keepers in the squad is going to be a nightmere !!!!!!!!!!!!
not many carry 2 good keepers never mind 3/4

Fairly sure the emergency loan rules will allow for another keeper to come into the 25 if two senior keepers are injured.

Not sure if you can just promote one of your own into the 25 in those circumstances.

I think the high number of under 21s getting cut before they get a proper chance is a consequence the authorities havent really thought of.

It could work that more filter down to the lower leagues where they actually get more expereience and games though.

It just seems a bit rushed and ill thought out.

So for clubs that have sthg like 15 homegrown players, they're actually being told they can get rid of up to 7 of them. How exactly is this helpful if this rule is meant partly to give more chances to homegrown players?

is just lack of idea in making a mission taken, after the world cup the media where saying Spaniard have grown players and young talents in their clubs and is why they took this years wc trophy which i disagree and perhaps the FA will look at it in a direction to still let the EPl stands tall among the best of europe.

The way it should work is that you name the 25 man squad, 8 of which have to be homegrown players. Then you can have any number of homgrown players of any age over and above the 25 man squad. This means that squads are forced to have no more than 17 bought in foreign players. This makes more sense and 21-24 year olds who've come through your academy don't have to be axed immediately unless by choice.

makes a lot more sense to limit the number of foreign players than put a number on the homegrown
however i would have thought they would find that difficult to get through EU law for players with european passports
