Inception

Saw it this afternoon... while I'm a big fan of the director and Leo di Caprio, I must admit I was slightly disappointed in it.

Too many car chases and shoot-outs and explosions, half an hour too long that could have been trimmed quite easily and a story that was way too clever for itself.

Not as good as Shutter Island... but the special effects were brilliant.

Di Caprio was his usual excellent self, and the supporting cast were all top-notchers but in the end I left the cinema underwhelmed by it all.

I watched this last night, I fully understood it, I just really didn't like it. It seemed to last for days too.

I thought it was complicated enough to make you think about what was going on, and not just sit there mindlessly and watch the pretty lights, but it also wasn't to over complicated, so that you though 'What the hell is going on', and remove all the fun.

It was long, but I didn't think it felt that long. Some of the scenes were brilliant, like when Arthur was fighting in a the room which was spiralling.

Each of the actors were brilliant, and haven't got a bad word to say about any.

I really enjoyed this film, and think it's the best new film i've seen all year, or even the last couple of years.

I saw it at a midnight opening over here - some girl invited me to join her (otherwise I wouldn't have bothered) and although it was well made it wasn't what I'd get all excited about.

the usual American-ised violence for the sake of violence when perhaps more might have been made of the intricate plot base. If you like lots of mindless shooting and explosions in 'action' sequences this is one you'll enjoy.

anyway, I'm sure it'll impress a lot of folks; I think the Guardian gave it four stars in their summer review or whatever.. I'd only go 2.5 - and not enough is made of Ellen Page, bah humbug!

;o)

My take on it as well.

yes, I'll go along with you both on this.. it's not a hair on something truly classy, like 'The Godfather', or a more contemporary 'The Lives of Others'.

anyway... the kids will go for it, and they are the most likely audience for being spoon-fed this sort of formulaic pap.

-- Tue Jul 20, 2010 4:02 am --

ditto - I saw Shutter Island on the flight 'home' last month; good comment.

Brilliant film this, bit of a mind fuck at times but good all the same. Do tend to feel quite attracted to Ellen Paige in this also. :)
