Independent Regulator Petition

I think a few bullet points are needed here:

~ The petition is to start to have the discussion. That's it. Nothing else.
~ There is as yet NO written agenda, proposal, plan, scheme, idea or directive. Its only to start to have the discussion, which is why it is so vague.
~ No one knows if the "red wall" will try and infiltrate the plan (whatever the plan is!), they probably will, but who's to know if they will succeed. If they do, one assumes it will be tough for them to pass it off as "independent"
~ Please don't underestimate the power our owner wields with the government and in general. This isn't like the old days, we have a hell of a lot more clout than previously. If our owners don't like the eventual proposal, do you think they'll just sit back and let it happen. Ask CAS/Eufa how that last disagreement turned out.
~ Also see what happened to the ESL when we decided (albeit late) that we didn't like it.
~ It would be very difficult to actually devise a plan, that would be presumably to the agreement of all concerned parties, that would be any worse than the system we currently have. Very difficult.

For fks sake people, stop kyboshing this opportunity because some ex manure players are in there. Its admirable that you hate Man Utd as much as you do, but try not to let that hatred road-block a possible better solution to what we have now. To remind you, what we currently have is utterly shit, completely bent and totally unbalanced. It does really need changing. At least find out what's on the table before it gets kicked into the long grass.
The parliamentary debate has already started with the review being chaired by Tracey Crouch. I’m sceptical as to whether any meaningful will come from it but let’s wait and see rather than try to push it in a particular direction that hasn’t been thought through.

*sigh*

Where have you been? Have you not heard Gary Neville over last two weeks on TV or read in press anywhere? He IS the architect, he is the single voice behind it, driving it, mobilising it ... he’s the one who has gone and enrolled Lineker and Ferdinand and the rest on board ... it doesn’t matter whichever nobody’s name he has put on the petition and circulated it.

And no he didn’t merely retweet it, he made a fucking video and pleaded in it and launched it all himself ... get your head out of the sand and do some research maybe, before being stuck on your pointless point just for the sake of it!
It’s a petition that will try and get MP’s to debate the independence governance of football.

It’s not a manifesto and gives no power to Neville et al. Whether he tweeted it or made a video is completely irrelevant.

They’ve already set up a process to debate the independent governance of football. This is intended to push that review in a specific direction, towards a predetermined solution that has been given very little thought.

”football governance isn’t working, we need something different”

” an Independent Regulator would be something different“

”we need an independent regulator“

That’s the level of analysis that’s been carried out

I've got no problem with this view. Perfectly fine to argue the semantics. Semantics are all we have right now. This petition reads like a 12 year-old wrote it in five minutes on the back of a napkin at a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Whether it's meant to be just a legislative Kickstarter campaign or something deeper, it's vague and weak and those who are worried about the myriad directions this could go have every right to be because the vagueness and weakness of the petition leads them to conclude all worries should be on the table. Of course potential positive reform should be, and hopefully will be, too.

Get YOUR head out of the sand, lol.

Seen as your entire take on this petition seems to be dominated by the involvement of Gary Neville, I’m surprised you didn’t hear the noise he was making about Project Big Picture at the time. He was absolutely incandescent about it!

The petition asks for MPs to debate the independent governance of football.

If it’s successful, MPs will discuss it and it is then for the MPs to decide how to go about researching, investigating, proposing and reforming football governance.

It doesn’t matter if Gary Neville has retweeted it, filmed a fucking video, written a proposal for football independent governance in his own blood while baring his arse in Burton’s window, it’s for the MPs to decide how to go about reforming football governance, not Gary Neville.

If you think MPs are better suited to sort football, there is no point discussing it further ... I don’t think they are or they would. They’d only send out a few sound bites that make them look good, they’d form a committee, oh wait, already one’s formed when BoJo wanted to jump on the populist anti ESL bandwagon ... that committee will then call in some football people to talk to them (and that’s where Gary fucking Neville will be at the forefront of it, watch this space) ... remember who got audience with the prime minister a day before ESL was announced?

Sadly nothing will come if it, what everyone is asking for already exist in FA ... who’re supposed to govern the game. Are they full of the reds, yup ... we already had Champions League and UEFA and a new ESL was proposed to replace that ... this will be equivalent of that exactly replace FA and all with a newer version ... and no I don’t trust MPs or anyone else in football to come up with something ‘neutral’ for all.

The overall “agenda” remains, the reset is to pull in City and Chelsea and likes there of and keep traditional clubs relevant and at the top. (Obviously not of this petition, but speaking in general overall football governing bodies and people at the top at present - who will be the ones poking their noses in whatever new debate arises).

But it wouldn’t be MPs that personally regulate football any more than they (rather than the FCA) regulate the Financial Services industry.

Which is what I said ... who would they appoint or call to provide their expert opinions to this new version of FA or oversight or whatever you call it ... where do you parachute in “independent” anyone in present day that’s not a red or biased already?

If there was a proposal whereby the CEO or former CEO’s of United and Liverpool could sit on boards at the PL, FA, and UEFA, lock City’s executives out of the decision making process, invent and oversee new rules like FFP that protect themselves and damage Manchester City, would you vote for it?

Because that’s what we currently have already.

Signing this petition allows the opportunity for an independent body to investigate whether the current system is fair and fit for purpose.
Of course not but we have come through that now! Man City name and our club the last 10 years the Narrative by the media has been an utter disgrace where know we are cheats we state owned! Now we come through all that and we it’s look like we going to be too dogs for the next five years plus something else comes along to throw spanner in the works! On the face of it it look great we going take back control be independent everything going to be equal!
This comes of they will have a piece of paper of what they want and 100% it will have 50+1 on it…

well enough have signed it now so it will get discussed..

Mehh, there is already a review process for football governance in place, any "debate" will be along the lines of " we should wait for the recommendations of the fan-led review of football". And quite rightly. This petition is just Democracy Inaction and, yes, I know what I did there.

I will rather trust Bernstein to make sure that review gets completed than worry about a petition supported by a load of no-marks. I would hope Bernstein puts pressure on a timely conclusion though ..... a quick mention of vote-winning should be enough I imagine.

Your post is spot on, and I too am somewhat sceptical.

That said, I'm not sure how anyone (who is truly independent!) can look at the current situation and think it's acceptable. It's rammed full of snouts in the trough, blatent conflicts of interest, and at international level, is openly corrupt.

Greg Dyke thinks its unsolvable. He might be right.

But if someone is willing to have a go, at least let's listen.
