Independent Regulator Petition

I think you’re doing the people who signed the petition a bit of a disservice, they’re probably not as thick as you think they are.

The petition is about the independent governance of football. That was abundantly clear to anyone who clicked on the link, give people a bit of fucking credit for being able to read.

This paranoia delusion about Gary fucking Neville is getting completely out of hand and really needs nipping in the bud.

This petition is not for Gary Neville’s sweeping reforms of football that he’s dreamed up all by himself for the benefit of himself and Salford FC (both of them).

IT’S A PETITION FOR THE INDEPENDENT GOVERNANCE OF FOOTBALL TO BE DEBATED IN PARLIAMENT.

There are no reds under the bed. There is no trojan horse. There is no small print there to fuck City over.

It’s a petition for the government to investigate whether football governance as it is in this country is indeed “independent” and fit for purpose.

My view is, with David Gill in positions of influence in the FA and PL, that football governance is not independent and not fit fir purpose.

A vote for this to be debated in Parliament, could lead to an investigation in to the governance of football and specifically an investigation in to whether the governance is truly independent.

Any legitimate investigation would conclude that David Gill has a clear conflict of interest and could lead to his removal.

It’s important to remember, City are currently in an ongoing legal dispute with the PL where were are claiming that the governance is not independent.

The club’s position was made quite clear in the CAS case that moves to damage the club within the football governance at UEFA was “clear and orchestrated”.

It’s without question in City’s interest to have independent governance in football. But some would not be in favour because Gary Neville is. It’s fucking pathetic.

The small point you’re missing completely is that David Gill actually resigned from Manchester United to be appointed on at UEFA and ECA and FA ... so his resignation apparently made him “independent” ...

Fuck that kind of independence and any such oversight on City ... and yes I know what the petition is about, that’s where it starts ... seen this too many times in the last decade!

So just to be clear, this isn’t a manifesto. It’s not a plan for the future of football.

It’s a petition for the independent governance of football to be debated on Parliament.

Under our political system, for something to become law, first it has to be debated in Parliament, then investigated, researched, an MP will come back with a proposal based on the findings, and then if a majority of MP’s vote on it, then it becomes law.

So this petition is not the actual proposal. It’s several stages back from that. This petition is just for it to be debated in Parliament.

If it reaches 100k signatures then it may be debated. And then comes the investigation, the findings, the proposal and then the vote.
Maybe I'm confused because I don't even understand what the petition is asking for. "Independent" isn't defined, which is kind of the crux of the whole matter I think. If Parliament decides to define that term in a way differently than the petitioners intend, doesn't that potentially make things worse? Why wouldn't the petitioner actually take the time to spell these things out?

Signed, but resigned to the fact that it will probably result in Gill or the GPC being appointed as the 'independent' scrutineer.

And who is going to be influencing any report from a review that will have recommendations attached to it ? There is influence at every level of the game and we know which clubs have the most leverage and influence. They will be the ones shaping the recommendations of any report. City aren't one of them however you want to dress it up.
Again, I think you’ve maybe misunderstood the purpose of the petition.

I assume it’s kept deliberately vague so as not to look like an agenda and to get as broad a support base as possible.

There’s been a fair bit of political debate recently around the governance of football after the SL debacle.

If there’s ever going to be reform in English football, now seems like the perfect opportunity to do it.

Where is “that kind of independence” defined in the petition?

If you broadly disagree with the concept of independent governance, what would you suggest as a better alternative?

How can David Gill be a board member of Manchester United, the FA, UEFA, FFP and FIFA?

Football needs to have independent governance, without conflicts of interest.

It's an issue that probably affects City more than any other club.

This could be our chance to actually do something about.

I know it's an independent review but I feel it's disingenuous leaving out the people that are front running this when you're specifically on about taking one of them down.

So it will be MPs “front running” this, mate.

The petition is to try to trigger a debate in Parliament about whether there should be independent governance of football.

I didn’t think it was really worth mentioning that Gary Neville had retweeted his support.

I thought the mere mention of his name might make some of the more sensitive blues a bit paranoid and distract from the actual purpose of the petition. Which has turned out to be prophetic.
