Inflation - when is this going to end?

When interest rates are high enough to affect personal spending and business investment, the supply chain finally creates more supply than demand, and even with the upward wage spiral prices pinch the pockets of the sweet spot of consumers (marginal, non-essential spending amongst the middle class) .

It's an odd situation now, regarding the traditional ways of controlling inflation.

The BOE is putting up interest rates but the energy companies are taking far more money out of peoples pockets than interest rate rises.

It'll be interesting to see how long it is before the brains that run the country get to grips with that double whammy, which hasn't been seen before.

What I do find perplexing is people are still spending money, going to pubs/restaurants spending a fortune, going on holidays that are not cheap and still using there cars, the roads are worse than ever.

I am not advocating people not enjoying themselves, far from it but some people are just not cutting back seemingly?
My change is cut my use of a car and work more from home and no holidays.
Are people just using credit cards?
Some people have more money than others seems one of the most obvious reasons.

Some people are still better off working from home counter acting the rise in prices with cheaper travel, child care, easting during the day.

That after not being able to spend much money for well over a year, probably saving about £10k for some, and now they are spending.

Not for a while. It'll get worse before it gets better. I think we will see high rates way into 2023.

An answer out of a textbook that doesn't apply in this scenario.

Some people just think “we’re all going to be fucking dead one day anyway, so let’s just get out there and enjoy life while we’re alive”.

I’d rather make the cut backs by not putting my heating on and having shorter showers or even cold showers, batch cook meals and the dozens of other things we can do to cut back in the home so I can still get out there to enjoy life outside the home. Rather than sit in the house with the heating on full blast from September to April and thinking “not going out again, means I’ll be toasty warm over the winter”, I’ll spend less time at home so I’m not using my G+E and get out and about.

One big cut back I have made that many people will is a stupid sacrifice is getting rid of the car. You realise how much you don’t need one after a few weeks if you’re in a position where you can walk, run or cycle to work. That’s given me HUNDREDS of pounds a month more to myself.

Yes an interesting take. It's very depressing at the moment especially after Covid.
I do wonder whether we will be in this never ending cycle of doom and despair for a few years yet.

Our cars are paid for both 10 years old,in decent nick, we’ve been using them less so they ain’t costing us a fortune, we need one and half cars for those occasions where we both need one, but now the wife works from home if I was paying out every month for a car I’d be selling straight away.
