Who hasn’t gone on international duty? I know Foden, Stones, Laporte and Aguero aren’t involved. Sterling is now out. I assume Zinchenko and Gundogan are out. We could’ve done without Ederson’s late call up.

Hopefully we have a decent contingent working with Pep while these pointless matches are on.

Think Fernandinho and Mendy will also be with the team.

For some strange reason Cancelo has been called up despite being currently injured.

Steffen has probably been called up also.

Jesus wlll stay behind.

I'm certainly not his biggest fan but I thought our complete inability to dominate possession the last couple of weeks would have made people realise Gundogan does have an important role in this side. I am a bit disappointed Bernardo won't get a run in the Merlin role before IG is fit though.
He only dominates possession when other teams sit back and allow him to do so,otherwise we may as well have a traffic cone wearing our shirt.

Our ability to dominate for the first 25 mins of the last two matches wasn't an issue,in fact we were brilliant.....so,we are more than capable, but something is going amiss.

Pep constantly goes on about how having a top level bench and competition for places really increases the intensity level in training and prepares the side for games.

Worth remembering the 8 injured players would have been replaced with EDS kids in training and brought the level right down.

If Pep's right about how much training impacts games, that would have effected our performances so far this season too.

The fact we couldn't keep hold of the ball when we weren't outrunning the opposition like in the last 25 minutes suggest we missed him a lot. No one can press like that for 45 minutes. At somepoint you have to just keep hold of the ball and tire the opposition out by making them run.

He does that possession retention job really well. We form the U shape around the opposition box, and he passes it 10 times a minute, helps win it back if we lose it, helps us regain that shape if the ball is cleared. I don't know if Pep still coaches his 15 pass rule (he hasn't changed much over the years) but he used to encourage Barcelona and Bayern to pass 15 times before they went for an attack so everyone could be in the right position to win it back if the attack failed.

Gundogan does that, he makes the passes, he often points and puts people in the position around the box they should be in. David Silva did it as well, and had much more to his game, but Gundogan does play a big role in that possession game and that's why Pep plays him.

The Gundogan debate is incredibly tiring when people like you refuse to believe that Guardiola can evaluate his own players. Either you believe Pep picks him because he does something none of the other options do, or you can believe the manager is just a fucking moron who deliberately picks a player who doesn't help the side do anything.
