Agree completely. I would love to see us integrate some younger players to help the burden. I don't think throwing one or two in would make much difference and will help with the number of games we have and the lack of recovery time. The younger players will recover far quicker. This season should be sacking the league cup off really, but Pep just will not do it. He wants to win everything, but I think it hurts us when it comes to the Champions League knockouts.

The way we're playing this season we're also not really controlling games and so the amount of running will be a lot higher. Usually we'd punish teams early and then pass it around and manage the game. We seem to have lost that and end up in this end to end counter attacking football which requires effort right to the end of the match. At least in the CL you can still make the 5 subs. And hopefully game management improves as we get into the season. A lot of poor passing and mistakes throughout the side so far.
I agree with all of that, mate. We have been very poor and disjointed this season because of the disruption. The problem with the kids, though, is that there is an enormous gap between being a top EDS player and being a competent premier league player. It's taken Foden two years to bridge it, and he's still patchy. Also, Pep is having to give unfit players like Gundogan and Aguero game time just to get them up to speed. It's a tough job for him at the moment but I'm absolutely confident that given time together as a squad we will improve significantly.

I have to agree with this.

Fernandinho is injured and I would give Doyle a start this weekend. He’s played well in his recent starts. Mature performances, kept the ball well, worked hard defensively and displayed his technique.

If he starts with all the first team regulars again he won’t look out of place. Rodri is starting a lot of consecutive games and Gundogan is just back from Covid so we don’t have too many options in midfield. Give Doyle a game.
Agreed but would be very surprised to see Doyle start a league game at the moment. One good thing about this is he’ll probably have to start rotating Gundo sand Rodri until he gets more players back so we might see some pace and energy alongside one of them in the coming games.

I'd love to see another club who's had the same number of prolonged injuries to the same amount of key players that we've had in the last 3-4 years. It's farcical at this stage.

I saw a table a while ago that had the total number of days all players had missed over a number of years in total per club.

We were slightly above average. Arsenal were way in front.

I find that VERY hard to understand. Silva, KDB, Laporte, Aguero, Sane, Mendyand Vinnie have all missed large chunks of seasons, not just 3 or 4 games. They'd all walk into the vast majority of PL sides.

Okay, maybe not Mendy.

It's because we are City fans and an injury to one of our own is easy to remember. Maybe we have injuries to more important players on average than squad players.

At the moment we really only have three out in Fern Jesus and Mendy. The others have niggles that will keep them out for 7-10 days.

If we look at a site like

We aren't in that bad of a state and quite frequently we have less than the majority of teams. Not so long ago Newcastle were on there at 14 out.

I don't think its the training, its the phsyio's and medical team. Same happened when Pep had his team of physios at Bayern.
An interview with Holger Broich (professor for sports and performance diagnostics - Bayern's fitness coach) might be interesting in that aspect. It is in German so you have to translate it with google translate:

A small part of it:
You have worked with Pep Guardiola. In his time in Munich muscular injuries especially happened often in the last third of the season. Did you work with the "traffic light system" already then?
Broich: Yes, it already existed then. But every manager has his own philosophy, everybody works differently. I worked with a couple of managers at Bayern: Pep, Ancelotti, Heynckes, Kovac, now Hansi Flick. Each has his own leading and cooperation style. But you have to add that we did not have as much knowledge then like we have now.

(The traffic light system is a monitoring system of specific health and fitness parameters of the players)

That's my point. I would doubt that Arsenal or Newcastle had injuries to players as important to them as we've had. Certainly not in the numbers we've had.
