Get the operation done , if we can get him back fully fit in the new year it is a bonus and great for a busy run-in , he is a decent player and has proved it at international level , unfortunate he has recurring injury but he has a four year contract so lets get the lad right and then judge him.
2/3 months for a major surgery so will defo miss the world cup but gives the physio team an extra weeks to get him ready for January restart!

I don't know what you know that the rest of use don't but all the papers have said he'll be back before the World Cup.

It's a chronic injury he's been nursing and playing through for 2 years, if having surgery meant missing the world cup, he'd be having the surgery in January.

It does beg the question, though, why he didn’t have the surgery done in the summer?

I don't know how treatment for something like that would change when you change clubs and medical teams. Maybe if he'd stayed at Leeds he would have had the surgery in the summer, maybe City's doctors wanted to get a proper look at it before sending him for surgery or maybe he was told conflicting things by the 2 clubs and it took this latest injury to convince him to get it done.

It's annoying but no one ever retired from this sport because of a dodgy shoulder, and he should be able to run and train alone so he should get back quickly as soon as that shoulder can make it through contact.

Well Phillips is fucked for the time being. As suspected his shoulder has popped out again in training so it's going to need pinning. That will be several weeks post surgery before being fit to play.
