86 was a very long time ago ,i'm sure techniques in shoulder surgery have moved on , same as knees ,once upon a time a bad knee injury meant career over at the highest level most of the time
Sure they have but it's a serious injury for any sportsman, it's not a easy fix.

He's got access to some of the best medical care in the world. If I was Pep I would be thinking write off this season for him to get proper treatment and hopefully comeback better.

And either have Rodri die in the pitch or us having to improvise again to rest Rodri if we don't want to lose every cup we participate in.

I trust Pep and the club if we have or need a stop gap for Rodri.

We pulled the Dortmund lad out of the bag for our CB issues. I have complete faith we'd find another bargain basement replacement if needed.

wonder what time we will get the usual Stones withdrawal announcement?

Same injury that Bryan Robson has before the World Cup in 86, that did not go well, hopefully this outcome will be better, the sooner he has the op the better, almost certainly miss the WC but he has a long career to protect.

It's a major decision to miss the WC to have surgery on it, so fair play to the lad - clearly not something he can deal with. I'd imagine he'll be out until March time and not at 100% until the start of next season. March is a good time to get him back, but we'll miss him still as Rodri doesn't really have any cover otherwise.

A three week tournament is irrelevant in the cold light of day when it comes down to taking care of your long term career.

If he were to go against his club's wishes and NOT have the op, goes to the WC and is injured yet again, I would imagine he will be gone from this club before the new year.

It sounds like he avoided surgery to go to the Euros, but I think having injured the shoulder twice already this season, he probably knows it's foolish to take any more risks.

From the club's point of view, I can see them telling him he has no choice.
