Always going to be a tough game against the pass meisters, even without Silva pulling the strings. England had the perfect first half, and defended as well as could be expected. Pickford was very lucky tonight, there’s fine line in believing your own abilities and living a delusion that you are gods gift to goalkeeping. I’d drop him for that gaff ( the one where he got caught on the ball and should’ve been penalised for pulling the Spanish striker back)
Great result, and 2 goals from Sterling the perfect reply.

Lucky not to get a straight red for his foul and eight yellows for time wasting as well tbh

Classic smash and grab that. We barely had three attacks yet managed to mug them, while they aimlessly crossed it in like Wee Davey was in charge. That second half was pretty much every game City have lost in the past 5 years, England barely putting 5 passes together, but somehow holding on with a combination of luck, dodgy officiating, time wasting and millions o crosses to midgets.
Actually weren't we more like Liverpool against City last season? Fast, powerful start, clinical finishing, then hold on doing very little for the rest of the game and act like we battered them for 90mins afterwards.

We should take confidence from a result like this however it came though to be fair, it was a competitive game that Spain did not want to lose.

Really enjoyed that, a rarity for an international for me, but this nations league actually creates a proper game of football unlike stupid friendlies.

England were devastating and clinical in the first half, then defended the onslaught in the second half, and deserved a bit of luck to get a deserved win for me.

They get overrun in midfield as games go on and the front three tire. It's nothing we don't already know about the shortcomings of the team, but they earned the right to defend a three goal lead by how clinically they took their chances in the first half.

England are a work in progress. If they can improve in the centre of the park, they really will be a fine side.

Enjoyed that. It's almost as if we're seeing the embryonic fruits of some actual forward thinking and picking players based on form, not their club shirt.

Who would have thought that would work?

Apart from from the 3 well taken goals, England were very mediocre.
Southgate got his tactics wrong in 2nd half and almost gave it away.
At least it wasn't boring.

Totally agree, the midfield needs better players, but Barkley played very well, and is a start, we need a bit more flair yet, but hopefully it will become.
