Did I mention I'd been on Eggheads?
From the Daily Mail a few weeks ago, excellent interview with Bill Leivers.

That's the one.
I'm sure Gary James wrote about him in his 1st book. Almost certain he lived in a club house next to Maine Rd and said he remembered looking through his front window pre match and seeing a hot dog salesman cleaning his nails with his knife then when a customer came along cutting the hot dog roll with the same knife.

Excellent read. City need to invite Bill and his family up to the Etihad pronto. I have that picture of him escorting Trautmann from the Wembley pitch framed in my downstairs loo. I got it signed by Bert when he visited the P&W Branch quite a few years ago. It’s my prized City possession.

I was introduced to Bill whilst attending Mauldeth Rd Primary School. His kids attended there and he was dropping them off in the morning. I’m pretty sure he lived just off Mauldeth Rd, but before Wilmslow Rd at that time. Nice man.

Bill was at the heart of City’s defence when I started watching. He had played at full back earlier but moved to centre half after Dave Ewing left.

He was decent in the relegation season in 1962-3 and early on in the first season in Division Two. But age was catching up with him and he drifted out of the team. In particular I recall, with horror, a 4:0 home defeat by Grimsby Town. It turns out that was Bill’s last appearance for City.

He remains a player I have high regard for despite not seeing him play until past his prime.

Lived on Mauldeth Road in one of two houses the club owned and rented to players (next to Brunswick Road).

Pretty sure i saw him in a Ian Cheesman vlog a couple of years ago, he mentioned that the team coach was attacked at an away game at Liverpool. in the 1950's what a surprise.
