Invasion of Germany

What's that about no colours in bars, not come across this before on any the euro trips

It's not all the bars, just the big beer halls. The Hofbräuhaus has been strictly no football colours for at least 20 years, they won't even let you in wearing a scarf.
It's not only match days either, it's seven days a week.

Went in there in July, when we were over for the Audi Cup. 100% for tourists and overpriced, there are far better places to have a drink in Munich.

Anyone got any good recommendations for pre match drinking on the day of the game then? Considering the Hofbräuhaus seems to be getting such a bad rep?

Try the Löwenbräukeller on Nymphenbürger stasse, only about 1km from the main station. A big bierkeller with a long history.

Yeah it's full of Japs and Yanks with a sprinkling of various other nationalities. Pre-war it was doubtless a big local drinking hall but not these days. The locals avoid it, the only Germans you'll see in there are tourists from up north.

As Bayern Blade says, there are many better options in Munich. I reckon, though, that the best place for us to meet up on the day of the game would be the Augustiner Keller, on Arnulfstrasse (just up the road from the train station) again.

Hofbräuhaus is definitely not the place to be in Munich. As Bayern Blade said, the Löwenbräu is a good beer cellar. Last times the Irish Pub next to the Marienplatz was also a good place. Also interesting for a post match drink.
