Inverted wingers

how many times did we play like that in the last 22 games?, after a defeat people rake up some absolute bullshit, put our chances away, dont give goals away after 30 seconds and everything would be fine, not some mumbo jumbo about inverted wingers, pep got it wrong, or kdb is suddenly not good enough to get in the team, its all bollox, we had a bad day at the office, we couldn't put away our chances and weve got our giddy forward trying to tackle in the box after 30 seconds.

nothing wrong with the team yesterday, just the players fucking up.
The players did not play well individually or as a team. We lost most of the 1v1 battles. The wrong players were chosen to stop the counter. Athleticism was a priority against the rags. We have stopped teams counter attacking this season but the last 3 games we have looked slow and exposed and gone backwards imo. Hopefully it’s a blip.

Ask yourself a different question - how many times did we play like yesterday at the start of the season when we were 9th?

Flat, pedestrian midfield. DeBruyne pushed way too high up, which completely negates his game. Inverted wingers making us look narrow. Vulnerable to the counter attack at the back.

We played nothing like we have in the last 21 games yesterday, we played like we did at the start of the season, when we looked absolute garbage. And guess what, we looked absolute garbage again.

The 21 wins on the bounce was based on us overwhelmingly playing 433, Rodri deep with Gundogan and Bernado in front. Bernado never stopped pressing, Gundogan pushing higher up and looking a goal threat.

Pace, energy and natural width from Foden and Sterling on the wings. The nominal number 9 dropping deep and creating space behind him for Gundogan and the winger to exploit.

Yesterday we did none of those things.

All of the changes we made 22 games ago, we threw out of the window and went back to what was a disaster at the start of the season. It was absolutely bizarre.
