Iranian General killed by US Drone.

The full map is on this page and it makes quite some reading, I am literally lost for words as it appears some people cannot identify land from water, they're presumably thinking the grey is the sea and the white is the land, and others assumedly have no idea what the shape of their own country is.
I thought that too about the land vs water thing.

Geography is funny. I love maps and always have. And I travel a lot. But if you gave my wife a map of the US with the states colored in but not identified she could only get 2/3rds of them. And this is a woman with a BA and an MBA from really good schools who pays more attention to current events than I do

I have an unhealthy obsession with maps and schematics. One of my favourite books is the history of underground systems around the world and how their route maps were developed over time and changed when new lines and stations were built. I just love looking at how maps of an area change over time. I agree, though, that not everyone knows how to read them and I'm pretty sure that what is obvious to the map maker, i.e. land and sea, actually isn't to others.

Wouldn’t have played as well with their public though and the one thing their regime cares about is staying in power. I think they played a blinder getting their “revenge” without doing any damage.

Yeah that’s the only problem but they’d suddenly gain a lot of respect on the international stage and would have really embarrassed America, it would have been about them selling it to the population and whether they’d have bought that.

As it stands they’ve done pretty well.

Not sure the clicks argument holds too much water. Looking down the most popular stories on the BBC website, Iran-Trump is number 9. Behind the Royals, obviously, but also behind: M&S sales fall as men shun skinny trousers, John Lewis sales down and Justin Bieber has lime disease, amongst others. Most people in this country probably don't even know that anything has actually happened with Iran, much less care about any likely consequences. If it gets mentioned in Eastenders or tweeted about by Katie Perry, Taylor Swift or Cristiano Ronaldo then they might think about it for a minute but, after that, not so much..

To be fair, the BBC were one of the better ones because they don't really change their format/story layout but a lot of online papers had special headers on the Iran story with flashing 'breaking' banners plus too much column space given over to people who near-claimed this was the apocalypse.

Props to the person who cheekily put his/her pin on Wales. No props to those who put their pins on Israel, or, worse, bodies of water.

Actually, no props to anyone who did anything other than identify Iran properly.

I am glistening with pride for my country.

No need to limit yourself to self-loathing. Plenty of stupid people all over.

I think they reacted really....sensibly(?).

The USA did something completely illegal and incredibly incendiary, assassinating a general/politician of a country they're not at war with, on another country's soil where they happen to be guests.

In response, Iran spouted some hot air and sent some half loaded missiles to the airbase responsible, targeting buildings where there'd been no casualties.

The tragedy is the bloody aircraft, which seems like a case of some over-armed under-controlled militia taking things into their own hands. Otherwise the whole incident has unfurled about as quickly and peacefully as possible.

I think you forget that the Iranian general orchestrated an attack on a US embassy which killed a US citizen on Iraqi soil, isn't that illegal? There had to be a response.

As much as people dismiss Trump, he has certainly at least put Iran in their corner with regard to the expression of military power.
